"Hundreds more" suicide bombers are poised to strike against NATO forces in Afghanistan in a massive spring offensive, a senior Taliban commander said.
In an interview aired Wednesday on Britain's Channel 4 News, Mullah Dadullah also said Osama bin Laden is alive and in contact with Taliban leaders.
Dadullah said he had not met bin Laden since the fall of the Taliban regime after the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. He said the al-Qaeda leader, believed to be hiding near the Afghan border in northwest Pakistan, met outsiders rarely.
"Only his comrades see him; we exchange messages with each other to share plans," Dadullah said.

Office of Military Commissions Refers Charge Against ‘Australian Taliban’

WASHINGTON, March 1, 2007 – The Defense Department’s Office of Military Commissions referred a charge today against David Matthew Hicks, an Australian captured in Afghanistan in December 2001.
Judge Susan J. Crawford, the convening authority, referred one charge with two specifications of providing military support for terrorism. DoD officials said this is not a capital case.
The referral is the first under the Military Commissions Act of 2006.
Hicks became known as “the Australian Taliban” following his capture. He is being held at the detention facility in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba.
Under new procedures, Hicks must be arraigned within 30 days of receiving the charges. Within 120 days of receiving the charges, the military judge will assemble the military commission for trial on the merits. DoD officials said they expect the Hicks trial will begin in the summer.
Just as in the United States, Hicks is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He has legal representation, officials said.
If convicted, Hicks can serve his sentence in Australia, U.S. government officials said.
DoD officials expect referrals for other detainees shortly.
Officials said on background that probably only 60 to 70 detainees will be charged with crimes under the commissions.

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - More than 500 gallons of radioactive water leaked at a nuclear power plant, but did not contaminate the environment, an official said Thursday.
The water leaked early Tuesday at the Temelin plant's first unit, which is currently shut down for fuel replacement, plant spokesman Milan Nebesar said.
"The water went to a special tank through a special ... system and none of it leaked to the environment," Nebesar said. He said that an open valve caused the leak.
The plant's second unit was running at full capacity.
Nebesar said the plant's management has informed Czech and Austrian authorities about the leak.
Austrian officials expressed surprise and anger over the delay in getting word of the mishap, which occurred while Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer was on an official visit to Prague.
Environment Minister Josef Proell lodged a formal protest with his Czech counterparts Thursday, insisting the Czech government explain "why it took more than 50 hours before Austria was informed" of the accident, said his spokesman, Daniel Kapp.
The Czech Republic and Austria have been at odds for years over the plant, located only 35 miles from the Austrian border. Austrian environmentalists have demanded the plant closed because of security concerns. Czech authorities insist it is safe.
Construction of the plant's two 1,000-megawatt units, based on Russian designs, started in the 1980s. The reactors were later upgraded with U.S. technology, but have remained controversial because of frequent malfunctions.

FRISCO -- Police are telling the public: don't do what Shirley Reed did. The 60-year-old woman turned the tables on a would-be carjacker and shot him with his own gun, detectives say.
Officers responded to the Wade Crossing Apartments at 9399 Wade Blvd. in Frisco just before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night. Reed says she was getting out of her car when a 19-year-old Charles Poursolanti approached her with a gun, fired it in the air, and demanded her car keys.

Forces Kill 13 Insurgent, Detain 26, Discover Weapons Caches

WASHINGTON, March 1, 2007 – Coalition forces killed 13 insurgents, detained 26 suspects and found scores of weapons in operations around Iraq over the past three days.
Coalition forces in Ramadi and its surrounding neighborhoods today killed two insurgents and detained 10 suspects with alleged ties to foreign fighter facilitation.
During operations elsewhere in Iraq today, coalition forces south of Baghdad killed an armed terrorist who charged at them as they entered a targeted building. In Bayji, coalition forces detained six suspected terrorists with alleged ties to al Qaeda in Iraq, military officials said.
"Coalition forces will continue to successfully kill or capture al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists regardless of where they may hide or operate," Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesman, said. "No place is safe for a terrorist in Iraq."
Earlier this week, Iraqi soldiers from 5th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, with coalition advisors, raided buildings Feb. 27 in Hawr Rajab, south of Baghdad, and captured five suspects. This raid, the second successful sweep in Hawr Rejab recently, was part of an organized effort called Operation Lion's Roar, designed to curb sectarian violence south of Baghdad.
In western Baghdad that day, Iraqi army and Multinational Division Baghdad soldiers discovered a large weapons cache after receiving a tip from a local resident. The cache contained 34 rocket-propelled grenades, 35 propellant sticks for the grenades, 11 mortar rounds, five bags of anti-personnel mines, seven rifles, one sniper rifle, and 14 crates of AK-47 assault rifle ammunition.
When combined forces inspected the house further, they discovered ball bearings, a detonation cord and several other bomb-making materials. An explosive ordnance detonation team destroyed the munitions and weapons on site.

West Philadelphia imam was sentenced yesterday to eight years and four months in a federal slammer for selling handguns and assault rifles without a license to an FBI informant who he thought was a drug dealer.
U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Savage ordered Wayne Hogue, 48, also known as "Imam Wadir," to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on April 30.
