The purpose of this thread will be to pool our resources and ideas to counter the attempted take-over of our nation’s capital and foreign policy.
It is not the place to voice your disgust with those that feel it is necessary to present a street presence to counter the dregs of society seeking to undermine and destroy our country and our leadership. If that is your purpose, please move along.
On January 27, 2007, Thunder90 posted a thread to advise us of the next convergence on our nations capital by the anti-American hate-mongers. This gives us SEVEN WEEKS to organize and strategerize.
While reading Thuder90’s thread and the AAR from the DC Chapter’s counter demonstration last Saturday, January 27th, you will find inquiries in regard to transportation, hotels, metro lines and the like. There were also a number of Freepmails discussing these issues.
For those interested in making our presence known in Washington, DC on March 17, 2007 please feel free to offer what you can.
· If you are driving and have room for others, let us know the general vicinity you will begin the trip. I have an offer now of someone willing to pay for half the gas to share a ride.
· We already have offers of rooms/beds for those that need a place to stay. We can always use more!
· Perhaps you can rally enough interest in your area that renting a van or chartering a bus would be worthwhile. Let us know and we will see if that can be arranged.
· Those that live in the greater DC area or will have a vehicle at your disposal may be able to help shuttle folks from hotels or metro stations.
· We may need wheel chairs and those to push them.
· Those that have blogs, talk shows, columns or access to others that do – please share!

(D.C. Chapter Report on 1/27/07)
There are no formal plans at this time. Why plan a big rally/counterdemonstration if no one plans to attend?
Rest assured the DC Chapter faithful, with assistance from local citizens and troops, will be in DC on March 17th between 11:00 AM and however long it takes to ensure our presence is known.
The question is – WILL YOU BE THERE?

Absolutely will! I am bringing a buddy down with me, and we will be participating outside Walter Reed on Friday night and at The Wall on Saturday...I hope to see you there!

Good Grief. These people are deluded. The only thing is they didn't call us is "Brownshirts"...

Well, the Park Police apparently have said they won't tolerate it, and I think it was the Capitol Police who stood back and didn't intervene.
I suspect it was a lack of leadership there that allowed the Capitol steps to be vandalized in full view. At least I HOPE it was a lack of leadership. That can be remedied...If they had official word not to intervene, I find that more troubling.
As it is, this is not just to protect The Wall. I don't think they would do it. (Well, they DO have some dumbasses who WOULD, no question) This is also to show our support. This is particularly important after the treatment of Joshua Sparling.
There are a lot of us who said we are not going to sit idly by 37 years later and let it happen AGAIN. We are not going to let our country be hijacked and our military mistreated AGAIN by a bunch of misguided and/or malignant people who don't have the best interests of our country at heart.
At least this time we will have a chance to speak out and at least do what part we can to ensure our military personnel are thanked, not reviled.
As citizens, we can never return the years of a young man's life lost to him over there. But we CAN express genuine, heartfelt gratitude for that.
We cannot control (or have little control) what Code Pink and others in their cause think or feel. But we CAN make sure that their side is not the ONLY thing heard by our military family around the world, in particular, those in the Middle East and their families.
They will hear us, too. And just perhaps, that little we do, can help one of our men and women in arms to bear the time in a better frame of mind.
They will be proud one day of what they now do. It IS a noble thing. And many of them will find out things about themselves that they never would have otherwise found, what they were capable of.
I predict that in the same way the Greatest Generation came home from WWII and changed our world, this crop of men and women in the Middle East will return from their experiences to help their families, country and businesses navigate the new world ahead in the 21st Century.
That we let them know we ARE grateful is simply a reward in advance for them.
They have already shown us they know how to meet high expectations.

I got someone telling me we veterans can't go to the wall and defend it because we don't have a permit.
Here is my response to him.
When they see you in person, they will. I've lost count of how many times I've been called a "fascist whore/ tool/dupe/moron/idiot" and other words I can't quote on FR.

I don't know if it's my sunny personality or my winning ways, but I've always been able to charm them.
America is at a crossroads. It is put up or shut up time. We plan to put up so see you all at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in March.
They are playing the game, none of what they say really means anything because it's all untrue.
But it IS all the more reason why we need to have our self control in check at all times that day. There will the professional agitators there who will try to taunt us and push us into making judgement errors that we cannot make.
Also found out today that two of the guys from the office building where I work will be there too :)

Springfield, VA--"Don't touch the Vietnam Memorial Wall," said Tom Poulter, National Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), speaking to potential anti-war demonstrators who plan on gathering there on March 17th.
"Fifty eight thousand men and boys fought and died so you could demonstrate in peace. To dishonor them by defacing the Wall is unthinkable," Poulter continued.
"We respect the right to demonstrate. We do not respect the right to defile or deface sacred places like the Vietnam Wall. Our members, many of whom were wounded in Vietnam, are outraged that protesters would even consider gathering near the Wall. That is hallowed ground to us who shed our blood on the soils of Vietnam."
The MOPH commander was livid when he learned of the planned gathering near the Wall to begin an anti-war demonstration on March 17th.
"It would be best for those people to gather some other place. In fact, there will be many Vietnam veterans guarding the Wall and I can assure you it will not be a peaceful situation should anti-war demonstrators try to damage or deface the memorial."
"There are those who will demonstrate who are not worthy enough to stand near the Wall, much less touch it."
The majority of the 40,000 members of the MOPH were wounded in Vietnam.
