Tens of thousands of demonstrators from across the country converged on the Mall in Washington today to urge the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq as President Bush is proposing to send more troops in an effort to stabilize the country.
The enthusiastic crowd was generally good natured and orderly, waving hundreds of colorful placards and chanting slogans such as "Not another day, not another dollar" and "This is what democracy looks like."
~~snip~~
Across the street, however, was a counter-protest, staged by the Washington chapter of the conservative organization FreeRepublic.com. Those protesters, who organizers said feared that the antiwar march would hurt the U.S. anti-terror efforts, yelled and sported signs, such as one that read, "Go to hell traitors. You dishonor our dead on hallowed ground."
At least one veteran from the Iraq war tried to bridge the divide between the groups. Cpl. Joshua Sparling, 25, from Port Huron, Mich., who lost his right leg below the knee in an 2005 explosion in Ramadi, spoke to both groups.
Near the end of the CodePink rally, Sparling, a patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital who used crutches to walk, went to the microphone and told the protesters that they are entitled to the right to demonstrate and must fight for what they believe in. But he reminded them that the situation is dire for many Iraqis and U.S. troops there believe that they are fighting to help provide a better option for the people of Iraq. He was rewarded with general applause, although a few feint boos could be heard.
When he finished, he walked across the street and spoke with the FreeRepublic group also.

"John Conyers said that Bush is the commander in chief of the military, not the commander in chief of the American people. He works for us, the people, through our representatives," Restino said. "There is legislation being introduced right now to get our troops out of Iraq," he added. "The Bush people say there is no plan, but there is. I urge everyone back home to get on the phone and demand their representative sign on to H.R. 508."
Thanks for coming. II think your daughter learned a valuable lesson despite the vulgarities being shouted.
Maybe she could share her thoughts about Friday night and Saturday.
yep
I'd agree with that estimate as we didn't require the usual amount of amont of police presence to protect our free speech rights.
I know!
All the photos I saw looked to be maybe one thousand at the most. Does anyone have any aerial shots of the march?
WHen's the last time she washed that greasy mop?
Bet her legs (and armpits) are as hairy as my golden retriever!
...and now she's swimming in the blood again.
Oh, I MUST have several of these! And a beautiful UN blue background, to boot!
Perfect answer to those hide behind their cloak of liberalism.
Jane Fonda did indeed show up. In fact, she told all the ladies in the anti-war crowd that she had freed their vaginas. Don't ask me to explain it, I don't understand it either.
The photo was staged. Kevin Wolf is a regular at the Walter Reed pinko protest.

What a perfect opportunity to call in a CBU airstrike.
I saw it on the way back from a lunch meeting downtown. Based on all the hype I had heard on the TV that morning I was expecting "tens of thousands." What I saw couldn't have been more than about 7 or 8,000 tops. That was at its peak about 1 PM.
No MSM choppers would be allowed over the capitol due to overflight restrictions.
The MSM would NOT want any of us to get hold of aerial shots of this protest, we would post them and scoop them with the evidence. Anyone who gets such shots would have a scoop feather in their cap. It seems that there were less than 1000 people there, maybe only 600.
No aerial shot, but I unwittingly picked a bad day to travel to DC for a meeting and ended up seeing the freak show.

They occupied the area from the pool in front of the capitol to about half way in front of the Air and Space Museum. They filled a quarter of the mall at most, and it certainly wasn't "tens of thousands" of people. It would almost be pitiful if they weren't such freaks.

his guess of 1500 was for "the AM activity". (mea culpa!)
at EITHER/BOTH "activities", that's an awful lot of IDIOTS, CREEPS, TRAITORS, FOOLS & WIERDOS in one place!!!!

NY Times also reports tens of thousands of protesters converged on the Nat'l Mall in
Washington to oppose President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.
If the NY Slimes claim tens of thousands then it must be so ...
