Although I agree with the wife, I don't think it's a very smart strategy to insult the President publicly while he's considering the idea of pardoning her husband.

IMO it is hard excusing shooting a fleeing suspect in the back. I dont however see any reason to give a drug runner a free pass to testify, especially when the Mexicans wont do the same for us.
To: Brilliant
Agreed. She's telling her kids that the president is a liar... what is she going to say if he pardons them (which he will not).

Hey, don't let the FACT that he was shot in the back while fleeing (posing no imminent threat to the border agents) spoil a good immigration-bashing thread.

A fleeing susupect ? If you disregard orders from law enforcement to stop, imo that should be enough reason to shoot.
To: Lunatic Fringe
He's not going to pardon him now, but he might as he leaves office.

I dont however see any reason to give a drug runner a free pass to testify, especially when the Mexicans wont do the same for us. Are you speaking of the Mexican government granting someone in the U.S. immunity so that he may testify in Mexico? How ever does one get access to that kind of information?

Uhm I hope no one uses that reasoning on one of your kids or and innocent person.

and was sharply critical of President Bush, calling him a hypocrite and worse.
Yep..... that's the course to take......
When you need help you don't spit in the face of those that may can help. Rohrabacher is no different.

Kids are different. An innocent person would have no reason to flee law enforcement.
To: HarmlessLovableFuzzball
Fleeing law enforcement is defiance of the law.
To: HarmlessLovableFuzzball
Fleeing law enforcement is defiance of the law. Much like shooting an unarmed, fleeing suspect in the back is against the law.

I really see no reason for a pardon. They shot a fleeing man in the back. That is the act of a coward, but FReepers are treating these guys like heroes. I find it repugnant that our government went to such extreme lengths to secure his testimony, but that doesn't change the fact that border agents are NOT the military. They are just like cops, and should only use deadly force when their lives, or the life of an innocent bystander, are in imminent danger.

"Although I agree with the wife, I don't think it's a very smart strategy to insult the President publicly while he's considering the idea of pardoning her husband."I disagree. She needs to hit him right between the eyes with this for all the world to see. The world that matters (the illegals and the drug smugglers) have stood up and taken notice of President Bush's inaction in this case. He has known about this case since the beginning and those men should never have even seen the inside of that cell. Any delay by George Bush on this is criminal, pure and simple. He needs to stand up and defend these guys and call out anybody that dare criticize.
He's still the leader of this country. He ought to try acting like one.
