Alas, alas, alas. Everyone wants secure borders except those who could order them secure, it seems.

I got mine out of ocean water.

Free ocean water, free uranium,.... free everything.

Interesting that a gazillion rules are in place to ship all kinds of radioactive materials, but we won't take two seconds to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws and possibly find out who ultimately may be driving these vehicles....there is a real disconnect here.

No disconnect.

No balls is more like it.

It takes more than a couple of voices here and there to secure the border. It takes a wholehearted will and effort to do it; but it won't happen, IMO.

The illegals have won w/o a fight.

"Alas, alas, alas. Everyone wants secure borders except those who could order them secure, it seems."

It will be our ultimate downfall, even for those that want the open borders. They just don't see it yet.

I have always had a knack to peer into the future, in a sense and extract some sense out of what was coming down the pike.

A huge part of the equation that we built over a hundred couple of years is now increasingly running out of control.

The great and huge country that America is, gives everyone the chance to run, and new places to go....the places to run to are going to rapidly run out and the problems are going to start to hit home. Americans will have to eventually face the monster that they have left the door open for. For now they are free to run.

Sorry for the rant, but I am passionate on this issue.

Authorities seal off the area...but say that it isn't harmful. Why such protective measures if there is no harm?

Because the ignorant public have been led to believe that it is dangerous and, so, they must seal it off or risk being called to task for not acting appropriately. We know that to seal the area off has nothing to do with the reality of uranium, but they have to act according to the public's perception of the uranium. A few ounces of steel is far more dangerous, if it's shaped into an icepick and driven into someone's brain or heart.

"The illegals have won w/o a fight.

Just by their overwhelming presence.

For those that don't follow the illegal immigration issue, this is one example how it enters into our collective lives.

There's no threat in spilled uranium (especially if you compare the environmental effects to the energy equivalent in spilled oil!) but there a real threat if it gets STOLEN.

Local news came on awhile ago saying that area of I40 is closed off. Not sure of the milemarkers that are affected.

Heck the way I40 has been closed off around here lately for construction, reconstruction (had to close it off to fix the first job from less than a year earlier), sinkholes created in the middle of the interstate (by a different construction project), and widening, I didn't know 40 was open anymore. I thought they had just turned it into a test highway for construction workers...

"All I know," said Will Rogers, "is what makes me laugh in the newspapers."

(Actually, what he said was, "what I read in the papers." but that isn't as funny anymore.)

if it reacts with water, it produces hydrogen fluoride-- which is both corrosive and quite toxic

The container was not breached. Their just going to need a crane to properly lift the package.

As many here have pointed out though, the environuts are going to be screaming quite loudly and I am sure there will be a congressional investigation, a shut down on highway transports of uranium, and the resulting jump in electricity prices. Congress will fail to realize we already have a whole set of transportation regulations to deal with such matters. They will do nothing to calm the fears of citizens, but will use the incident to further flame their agenda and weaken an energy hungry nation. I'd like to put a sarcasm tag on this, but....

Everything was fine until a dog wandered into the area and managed to lick up a little of the spillage. Now there are horror stories of feral pet who glows in the dark, and leaves rather glowing canine comments on neigbor's bushes and fire hydrants.

The dog is dangerous, and farts radon gas.

Officials are attempting to capture the dog,and finalize the spin on this incident.
