Raleigh The United States Attorney General suggested Sunday that his office might investigate the way District Attorney Mike Nifong has handled the Duke lacrosse rape case.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, United States Attorney General Alberto Gonzales confirmed he received a letter asking for a federal probe into the investigation, in which an exotic dancer claims three lacrosse players raped her at a March 13 party.
"Well, that is a letter that we recently received," Gonzales told Fox News' Brian Wilson. "It's being evaluated at the (Department of Justice). I can't say anything -- anything beyond that."

It's about time. He only did this tap dance on those young mens' lives because he wanted to be reelected. When no evidence of their DNA was found on the dancer's body, the entire thing should have been thrown out like so much garbage. IF she was actually raped it was by someone else.

I see someone "wrote a letter" and woke up Attorney General Rip Van Gonzalez.
Give me a break. I don't believe after all this time someone just "wrote a letter" letting him know something may be wrong in the Duke case.
I just hope that someone in Sleepy Hollow......uh, I mean the Justice Department props Rip "Speedy" Gonzalez up and tells him what's going on in North Carolina, where North Carolina is and how to spell "Nifong"......before he nods off and falls asleep for another two years.

No suggestions. Just do it. Why is there even a hint of discussion, Mr. Gonzales?

All talk. NO ACTION.

Leni, I just cannot believe how bad Alberto has turned out to be. It has been appalling to watch his non-performance as a guardian of our legal system. It seems his desire is to make no enemies, not even of criminals. He appears to be utterly gutless.

Give him a break. He went after the killers of Vince Foster,
and those who stole the 900 FBI files, right?
And how about those illegal aliens who murder 50 Americans a day,
run over and kill another 50 a day, and rape another 100?
He courageously went after them, too. /s

"nifong has been far too brazen about this"
And why shouldn't he? Dems get away with murder all the time and the msm convinces the public to give 'em a pass to do it.

Our national security secrets are leaked almost on a weekly basis. Dems commit crimes right and left (Reid, Mollohan), and Gonzales takes on internet porn, a nasty thing, but no one sane can disagree about wanting to protect children. It's just such a safe thing to do. He hints vaguely at "investigations" but nothing happens.
My impression of him is that he is weak and accommodating, and that he does not like to ruffle any feathers, particularly those of the powerful. I could be wrong, and I keep an open mind, but so far I haven't seen anything to indicate differently.

Thanks for bringing that up too, Bahbah.
Gonzales has ignored treason after treason (eg. the NYTimes),
even serial threats against our President (too many to list).
Gonzales ignores leaking of every technologic edge America has in our
war against Islamoterrorism, but at least he
has bravely taken on cancer patients who tried to used medical marijuana
to alleviate vomiting from chemotherapy, in states
which have dared to allow it.

From all I can see, the President and this country are ill served by this man who appears weak and fearful. Not what you want in the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the United States. He seems to have no nerve and I find that disturbing, and dangerous.

I really think something else is going on. The Justice Dept. works in sometimes seemingly strange and inscrutible ways. Groups or committees of lawyers, I think they call them sections or divisions, look at things and make recommendations. It isn't one man rule. If you go ahead and do something even though the appropriate section or division is dragging its feet, you appear to be going outside of regular procedures and you'll be accused of politics or doing the WH's bidding, etc. Many of the lawyers who work there are career types having worked through several administrations. If you as AG ruffle their feathers too much, they will leak on YOU and make you look like John Mitchell (of WaterGate fame) or somebody. Bahbah, I understand why you think something is wrong. I just don't think it's because Alberto Gonzalez is a weak man. He isn't. But then, even more people say it's Bush's fault for all these things you mentioned, and they accuse him of being weak. He isn't weak, either.

I hope that when this case is finally laughed out of court, the lawyers for the defendants will sue Nifong into oblivion. Nifong probably doesn't have enough in the way of assets to make it profitable. The city or county of Durham, whoever elected him, needs to pay for this.
