2006: A Violent Year For Philadelphia
KYW ^ | 12/10/2006 | AP staff

Philadelphia has recorded two more homicides this weekend, making 2006 the deadliest year in the city in nearly a decade.

Police say 382 people have been slain this year. With three weeks to go in the year, the city has topped the 380 homicides recorded in 2005.

Homicide Lieutenant Phil Riehl says one of the weekend shooting was drug-related while the other occurred early this morning when nightclub disturbance spilled into the street.

Police identify the first victim as 30-year-old Sean Frazier. They say the second victim, a 24-year-old Hispanic male, appears to have been a bystander to the fight.

Officials say the homicide count, though, remains far from the record of 500 set in 1990 during the city's crack epidemic.

Experts say this year's shootings don't follow a simple pattern except that people are settling many disputes with guns.

I bet some of my Freepers could find a pattern but then again they are not politically correct..

Trivia Question: Does anybody know who the mayor was in 1990?
(Hint: He was famous for burning down a whole city block..)

The other day, I was wondering how many people are murdered total in all U.S. cities with a population over 100K. I would imagine the death toll would be staggering.

Isn't it strange how the left screams about the deaths of Iraqis, but they don't have much to say about the deaths in our own cities.

I guess that's because those murders are committed by their constituents - don't want to get them upset.

And this is only ONE city with this number of killings... If we add up, say, three U.S. cities (all democrat controlled, of course) the U.S> numbers will certainly be worse than Iraq.

They shoot up in Philly and the idiot mayor John Street still wants to grab law-abiding gun owners weapons on the grounds there are too many guns on the streets. So it looks like they're not going after the criminals in the City Of Brotherly Love.

I think each and every single one of these homicides should be front and center on the nightly MSM broadcasts. And not just Philly; every murder throughout the nation should be given the attention that every death in Iraq gets. Maybe some folks will start to clue in that our troops are in no more danger IN A WAR ZONE than are average citizens right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. who are just trying to get to work (granted, that work might be the crackhouse, but still).

"The other day, I was wondering how many people are murdered total in all U.S. cities with a population over 100K. I would imagine the death toll would be staggering."

Latest statistics are for 2004: 16,137 homicides that year per 100,000 people, but that's for ALL of the USA. So 310 a week, 1,344 a month.

I've been sending the local Fox channel as much information
on this very topic as often as I can find it.

The local channels here in Tampa are so freakin' sissy, I
can't believe it. The other day, they actually reported that
"2 US troops were hurt" in an accident unrelated to military operations.

What the hell is that, I asked. Next thing you know they'll
be reporting " Military officials report soldier cuts self shaving"

When will it stop. These people in the news rooms are idiots.
