Rudy Giuliani remains the most popular presidential hopeful for Republican Party sympathizers in the United States, according to a poll by Opinion Dynamics released by Fox News. 30 per cent of respondents would vote for the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.
Arizona senator John McCain is second with 23 per cent, followed by former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with nine per cent, and Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with eight per cent. Support is lower for Kansas senator Sam Brownback, New York governor George Pataki, and California congressman Duncan Hunter.

As for the rest, I disagree with you -- unless you are implying that conservatives stayed home because they didn't like Bush' stand on illegal immigration. Those people can now be happy with the Dem Congress.

Two to one, or three to one, Giuliani over McCain, and still Mc Cain will doggedly fight, because he has not yet been convinced tht he lacks the posture of being a convincing President. He comes across as being merely nuts.
And nuts is not what we need over the next decade.

Do you have any proof that the evil conservatives voted for Perot? How come it's always the voters fault? How come you can't say Bush screwed up by supporting taxes etc.?
When a Republican running as a conservative loses, you always say it was the candidates fault the election was lost. When a Republican running as a liberal loses, you always blame the voters for the loss. Is that really fair or logical? How do you justify this double standard?

Only a moderate can win...the best you can do is hope for a candidate who believes strongly in States rights..that would be Rudy.

Duncan Hunter won re-election in his district with 64.9%. There is a lot to like about this man. He has the best record I've seen on immigration issues.

Most recently, Congressman Hunter co-sponsored and supported the passage of the Secure Fence Act. H.R. 6061 requires that border security fencing be erected in several specific locations along America's land border with Mexico. Projects like the Double Fence have served as an example to other border regions of what can be accomplished when border enforcement is provided with the resources it needs and how communities can be made safer on both sides of the border.

Now Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Florida are worthwhile in the debate. Maybe Minnesota and Wisconsin as well.
Winning in Michigan or Minnesota would change the map significantly in 2008.

Just enough "conservatives" sulked and stayed home or voted third party "to show the Republicans".
In many of the contentious races the Dems won by less than 2%. If conservatives had turned out and voted for Republicans, the Dems couldn't have taken control of Congress.
