Rudy Giuliani remains the most popular presidential hopeful for Republican Party sympathizers in the United States, according to a poll by Opinion Dynamics released by Fox News. 30 per cent of respondents would vote for the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.

Arizona senator John McCain is second with 23 per cent, followed by former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with nine per cent, and Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with eight per cent. Support is lower for Kansas senator Sam Brownback, New York governor George Pataki, and California congressman Duncan Hunter.

Funny, Democrats and the MSM don't even seem to care where their candidates stand on the issues. All they care about is who's the biggest rock star.

"I voted Republican, without any hesitation. "

In that case you can have a clear conscience and no blame for what the Dems do.

As for the rest, I disagree with you -- unless you are implying that conservatives stayed home because they didn't like Bush' stand on illegal immigration. Those people can now be happy with the Dem Congress.

The fact that this: "At first, I thought that was the "drunk driving" stink. Recently I've begun to wonder whether there are not people in Mexico who have some sort of leverage over the younger Bush, due to something in his youth, and his partying south of the border. " even crossed your mind and you seriously entertained as a possibility is PATHETIC or worse.

Criticism accepted and taken.

But how do you explain it?...

Not nearly big enough lead over McCain has been opened up yet.

Two to one, or three to one, Giuliani over McCain, and still Mc Cain will doggedly fight, because he has not yet been convinced tht he lacks the posture of being a convincing President. He comes across as being merely nuts.

And nuts is not what we need over the next decade.

Do you have any proof that the evil conservatives voted for Perot? How come it's always the voters fault? How come you can't say Bush screwed up by supporting taxes etc.?

When a Republican running as a conservative loses, you always say it was the candidates fault the election was lost. When a Republican running as a liberal loses, you always blame the voters for the loss. Is that really fair or logical? How do you justify this double standard?

But how did they match up ten years ago, I wonder.

You are exactly right - it is the responsibility of the GOP to provide grownups and gravitas.

Let's not forget our role in this enterprise. Perhaps the voting public will realize that the job of POTUS is not a walk-on in some sit-com.

Only a moderate can win...the best you can do is hope for a candidate who believes strongly in States rights..that would be Rudy.

Duncan Hunter won re-election in his district with 64.9%. There is a lot to like about this man. He has the best record I've seen on immigration issues.

Top Priorities if Elected

* Maintaining a strong national military.
* Ensuring a strong international border with Mexico.
* Working to keep defense and high-technology jobs in San Diego

Position paper on immigration.

Living in a border region most of his life, Congressman Hunter knows first-hand the importance of providing and maintaining strong border enforcement for our nation. Congressman Hunter believes that protecting our nation's boundaries requires providing our border enforcement personnel with they tools they need and enforcing our nation's immigration laws.

Since our inception, the United States has welcomed people from all over the world seeking better opportunities for themselves and their family. Congressman Hunter believes this spirit is what makes America great, and to preserve these principles, he opposes rewarding illegal immigrants who break our nation's law with state-issued drivers' licenses or amnesty. Providing these types of benefits undermines our immigration laws, makes the job of our Border Patrol and U.S. Customs agents that much more difficult, and is disrespectful to the millions of individuals who immigrated into the U.S. legally.

Congressman Hunter has introduced legislation authorizing the hiring of thousands of additional Border Patrol agents, voted for increased funding for improved facilities and vehicles, and supported continued construction of fence, road and lighting projects on the border like the "Double Fence Pilot Project", which runs from the Pacific Ocean to Otay Mesa. This fence has proven extremely effective against illegal immigration and drug smuggling into the U.S., as well as eliminating the rapes and murders that used to take place in this area. Most recently, Congressman Hunter co-sponsored and supported the passage of the Secure Fence Act. H.R. 6061 requires that border security fencing be erected in several specific locations along America's land border with Mexico. Projects like the Double Fence have served as an example to other border regions of what can be accomplished when border enforcement is provided with the resources it needs and how communities can be made safer on both sides of the border.

If someone else tells me that his chances aren't good against Hillary in either of those states, I'm just going to repeat myself again.

Please do, Hilliary won re election in a landslide, now tow years after that the voters of NY are just going to throw her overboard for Rudy?

Now Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Florida are worthwhile in the debate. Maybe Minnesota and Wisconsin as well.

Winning in Michigan or Minnesota would change the map significantly in 2008.

They get to keep her as a Senator and they get Rudy as President. Seems like a twofer to me.

"But how do you explain it?..."

Just enough "conservatives" sulked and stayed home or voted third party "to show the Republicans".

In many of the contentious races the Dems won by less than 2%. If conservatives had turned out and voted for Republicans, the Dems couldn't have taken control of Congress.
