Mitt Romney-Jeb Bush for GOP Ticket in 2008?
News Max ^

Posted on 11/15/2006 9:25:46 PM PST by MinorityRepublican

Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has hired several of Jeb Bush’s top aides, leading to speculation that Romney may be courting the outgoing Florida governor for a possible Romney-Bush 2008 ticket for the White House.

After Bush’s former chief of staff and top political adviser, Sally Bradshaw, joined Romney’s Commonwealth political action committee earlier this month, Romney flew to Florida to join Bush for campaign events and fund-raisers - and to gauge Bush’s interest in being a running mate, sources told the Boston Herald.

Soon after, Bush’s chief finance director, Ann Woods Herberger, also joined Romney’s political action committee.

Bush has ruled out running for president himself. But agreeing to accept the vice presidential post would allow him to "run on the national ticket without having to run for the ticket,” since vice presidential candidates are chosen, not elected, political analyst David Mark, a former political reporter who covered Gov. Bush, told the Herald.

The original post was that a Bush or a Clinton was on the ballot the last 20 years...

That's not how the news media will portray it. Just as being associated with lobbyist Abramhoff hurt the GOP, so too will being associated with the 2002 Olympic bribery.

Ah, gotcha. I must've misread it. Mea culpa. A Bush has been on the ballot for all but one election since 1980; Clinton takes care of the 1996 one I guess.

Anyone who wouldn't vote for him because of his name is an idiot.

I'm no idiot, but I'm fed up with the entire Bush family: Father, ex-President, rescues Bubba's reputation and pals around with him, W, pursing a union with Mexico regardless of the citizenry, and now another son wants the oval office? No. Let's get some new blood in there. No more Bush-picked Mehlman/Martinez at the RNC, etc. Time to thank the Bush family for their service to this country and move on in 2008.

The weapons ban was a compromise that had many pro-gun provisions.

Romney saved the Salt Lake Olympics AFTER the bribing scandal - he wasn't part of it.

I'm going to give 100 bucks to the Romney campaign as soon as he starts his exploration committee. And Jeb Bush is a great running mate. He's popular in Florida AND with Hispanic voters. Sounds like an ideal ticket.

Please, no more Bushes.

We need a candidate with a backbone, a good strong spine. The Bush's seem to have misplaced theirs! No, no, no!

Frankly, I find Jeb Bush to be the most likable of all the Bushes. But I agree with your assessment and was thinking the same.

Congrats, newbie. You just exposed your newness for all to see by endorsing a pro-abortion Governor who is loaded with an anti-gun track record and Olympic bribery baggage.

What decent strategist would willfully choose a man loaded down by so many anchors when there are so many better choices available?!

I bet that you'll never be able to show your $100 donation, either. Won't happen.

Hey, I'm originally from Belize, the only way I'd go back though would be if Hillary became president, but I don't really want to go back to live there, so let's just keep Hillary out of the white house.

Alliteration is key. People who don't vote for issues will simply vote for sounds.

"Romney/Rice" is killer. There's no better match.

They'll have a hard time faulting him for anything, considering the reviews he got. There's only so much they can do.

Jeb has been a fantastic Governor for my state. Governor of the year right? The man is qualified and is a proven leader.

If you can't see past his dad's friendship with Clinton or the fact that his brother has been forced to be realistic about the border problems then so be it. It seems rather petty to me.

Then again, in the past few weeks alot of FReepers have seemed petty to me.

I would support that ticket as well. But I think Secretary Rice has made it clear that see dose not have those kinds of ambitions and I don't think she is being coy about it.

No more Harrisons either. Tippecanoe and his grandson were quite enough.

Mark Foley wrote gay emails to adults and got creamed (pun intended) as being a child molestor.

Power of the press, baby!

Romney will be bagged by the press for the Olympic bribes at SLC just as McCain will get smashed for his role in the Keating 5 S&L scandal.

Might as well pick someone else if you want to win.

If you just want a placeholder for 2008 to lose, then McCain and Romney will easily fit the bill.
