IMHO, Newt Gingrich won't be elected President, but he is far and away the best choice for the post of top Republican strategist. Whether this is in the RNC or somewhere else, I don't know.
He needs to call the shots in 2008 while maintaining a low public profile. He can be the true "architect" of conservative victory once more. He led us to victory in 1994. He can do so again in 2008.
Gingrich should be to Romney what Rove is to Bush.

RNC chair. You betcha. And folks, actually listen to him. He knows how to do this. You pick issues where your base agrees with 80% of the electorate, not 20%, that the Dem base can't stand - and then you push them loudly. Exactly what the present crew did not do on e.g. immigration.

"He can be the true "architect" of conservative victory once more."Yeah, as long as we don't have to depend on him to impeach anyone.

I second that idea. Newt needs to be EVERYWHERE between now and then and have the ear of every GOP critter who'll listen.

What are Romney's set of positions, in detail, on all the Right to Life issues? Good question.
If he was shown to be truly Pro-Life, he would be the perfect candidate to take on Hitlery in 2008.

I would too but then there is the baggage...which the media would have a field day with. The left would never vote for him anyway and the conservatives? --

I've heard Romney and liked what I heard. At least the man can speak and persuade. I am suspicious of him. Being from MA he must be a RINO. But I would prefer him over McCain. I would prefer Guiliani over Romney.

Ur very right we all know that Rush Limbaugh wants Newt to run as well he should ever since the Republicans threw him under the bus the party has gone all hell. People here are way too blind to see it

The higher his profile, the more of a liability he becomes. I don't dislike him, or most of his ideas, but let's find some new blood.
To: Arkinsaw
I don't mind listening to him if he keeps a low profile. He is too "non-used car salesman" to be a front-man.I totally agree.
Let Romney be the front-man.
Gingrich is best behind the scenes.

If Newt ran, he would most likely face Hillary. Compared to her baggage only Castro , Ortega, or Chavez could look any worse.

Yes, true. So, like I say, show me a BETTER candidate that is ELECTABLE. And I will vote for him....

Too much baggage... I mean TOO MUCH baggage. Rush made this point today.
The MSM will either find or make up baggage for any conservative that will run in '08
Newt is BY FAR the only person who can articulate a conservative message as of right now. He has the background, brains, ability, and spine to be President.
A spine?
Wow, a spine in a pubbie. Now that might be something entirely different.

Gun rights?
Where do they they stand?
I know where they stand.
To: Nateman
I agree (well sort of).
Newt was a genius political strategist and organizer; it was as Majority Leader that some of his shortcomings were revealed. Newt was also a supremely gifted parliamentarian as many times he cobbled together ad hoc coalitions to push through key legislation.
The Contract with America was superbly well-crafted bit of political advertising. It neatly encapsulated a somewhat complex reform program.
The most disappointing thing about the most recent Congress was their colossal ineptitude in supporting some the President's key initiatives such as Social Security Reform. None of our current leaders had any clue about pushing through key legislation. It is not clear when there will be another chance to do this.

I've heard Romney and liked what I heard. At least the man can speak and persuade. I am suspicious of him. Being from MA he must be a RINO. But I would prefer him over McCain.Being Republican and getting elected Governor of Massachusetts is no small feat.
In a nationwide race, I'm certain that Romney will turn out to be far more of a conservative than most people think.

And rightly so. Bush screwed the pooch on that one. Here, you've got the opposition party running on 'A new direction in Iraq' and you could have taken that entirely away from them a couple weeks before the election. Bush's action was beyond dumb on this.
