The "bombshell" revelation from last April's National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), which was leaked to the New York Times in September, was that the war in Iraq had resulted in more terrorism, not less. As reported by United Press International's Claude Salhani, "Did we really need 16 intelligence agencies to tell us that? Ten minutes of watching the newscast of your choice, from Al-Jazeera to Fox News, would be enough to convince most observers." But the key question is why the war has provoked the global Jihad.

One answer has to be the influence in the Arab world of the America-
hating network Al-Jazeera. The AIM DVD on "Terror Television" shows film footage of captured terrorists saying they came to Iraq to kill Americans because of the words and images on Al-Jazeera.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "As thousands of Turks took to the streets to protest the ongoing visit of Pope Benedict XVI to their country, the Church was already dealing with another threat from angry Muslims – a cyberattack on the Vatican Web site.


An appeal to Jihadist hackers was sent out through Web forums linked to al-Qaida and was posted on two of the Web sites that publish messages from the terrorist organization.



"The leadership of the electronic Jihad has decided to undertake a grand attack against the official Vatican site following the insults by the Pope against our Prophet," the statement read in Arabic, referring to remarks the Pope made in a September 12 speech.


"With Allah's blessing, the attack will succeed thanks to the help of our brothers if we all attack simultaneously. We ask all our brothers to be present at the hour of the attack for a joint action, because they (Catholics) have struck our religion. They must be fought and deserve to be attacked and not only on their Internet site.”


Threats against the Vatican Web site and the Catholic Church in general began shortly after the Pope’s speech, in which he quoted a 14th century emperor’s description of Islam as a religion spread by the sword."

As a conservative I have been against the draft. But when I think of spoiled, ungrateful Americans whose only care in life is for the next toy they can buy, while some do multiple tours of duty in Iraq and/or end up sacrificing their lives, I feel differently. The only reason I am NOT pushing for a draft is because I know the spoiled among us would end the war almost immediately if a draft were instated.

Struggling US dollar triggers currency concerns

Snip: The chief worry is that if China's central bank -- the largest foreign holder of U.S. dollars -- begins to unload its reserves, the dollar will plunge. With China's yuan effectively pegged to the dollar, other leading currencies would move higher after the realignment.

There's no evidence yet that's what China is actually doing. But few investors want to be the ones left holding dollars when the plunge comes. "People are getting very nervous," said Andrew Busch, chief foreign exchange strategist at BMO Nesbitt Burns in Chicago. "It's a wonderful behavioural science experiment and it's being played out with billions of dollars. The first to get out tips the scales."

Central banks in Russia and in some Middle Eastern countries have already announced plans to cut their U.S. dollar holdings.

Australian officials to seek criminal charges against Dr. E-Coli

Snip: Jayant Patel, born in India and now a U.S. citizen, has been dubbed "Dr. E. Coli" and "Dr. Death" in Australia after allegations came to light concerning his tenure at Bundaberg Base Hospital in Queensland.

Queensland director of public prosecutions Leanne Clare said in a statement Tuesday that the specific charges wouldn't be detailed until the warrants were issued, but it has been reported previously in Australia that they will include counts of manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, negligent acts causing harm and fraud.

An inquiry found that Patel may have contributed directly to the deaths of at least 13 patients. They took place between 2003 and 2005 at the hospital about 320 kilometres north of Brisbane.
