WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry apologized directly to U.S. troops on Wednesday for comments about Iraq that had prompted a firestorm of criticism from Republicans and President George W. Bush.
"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said in a statement.
Kerry said earlier in the day he was sorry for a "botched joke" about Bush that was interpreted as a slam on the U.S. military. Republicans demanded a more direct apology and seized on Kerry's comments to students as a sign of Democratic weakness on national security.
Kerry told students in California on Monday that if they study hard they could do well but if they did not, "you get stuck in Iraq." His office said he misread his remarks and intended to say "You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."
"..whipped around and bitten me in the ass"
And he ain't the only one regretting from what I see of how many dem-o-rats are running for cover today!
Unless Kerry goes into complete hiding for 6 days, I wouldn't be surprised if he does something else stupid. He's probably fuming.
If so the medics had better stock up on bandages and bactine.
If it were a "botched joke," Kerry would have corrected himself immediately upon saying it. Saying it was an attempted joke now strains credulity.
BS. Direct would be TO them. Not on his website.
I'm ashamed that John Kerry is from the United States.
How do we know those are his words?
Go before the cameras, you COWARD!
(Al Reuters) Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING
Oh this guy is pathological - typical liberal 'apology' - you misinterpreted me....it's your fault you ignoramus.
Can this guy order a cup of coffee without being condescending?
This can't be an apology. Just yesterday, Kerry said he'd "apologize to no one."
Kerry has a plan to apologize.
A blog post is NOT a public apology Mr. Kerry!
"It depends on what the meaning of apology is."
Bill Clinton
If that A$$hole was directly face to face to me and apologize, I will not accept it.

Note to MSM: If you stood up every now and then and removed your lips from the behinds of any Dem you find, you would discover you've thrown away the dignity and trust the press once had...
Senator Kerry is and always will be a supercilious snob; he is that arrogant and humbleness challenged. His vilification of the military is legendary, however now he attacks all who have less education or are not schooled in the proper by Kerry standards, schools. The senator is woefully stupid. I dont want his apology, I want his resignation!
that is NOT an apology!
He is still saying that what he said was misinterpreted - he's still blaming others, not himself...and we know who he means by this.
I true apology would simply be "I'm sorry I said what I did."
That said, there are some things that cannot be apologized away. This is one of them.
Only a statement on his website...MSM is now saying this story is all over.....belch
Exactly, the mike Dukakis defense--I am sorry you idiots couldn't understand what I meant and instead believed what I said.
