Kerry makes direct apology to troops

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry apologized directly to U.S. troops on Wednesday for comments about Iraq that had prompted a firestorm of criticism from Republicans and President George W. Bush.

"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said in a statement.

Kerry said earlier in the day he was sorry for a "botched joke" about Bush that was interpreted as a slam on the U.S. military. Republicans demanded a more direct apology and seized on Kerry's comments to students as a sign of Democratic weakness on national security.

Kerry told students in California on Monday that if they study hard they could do well but if they did not, "you get stuck in Iraq." His office said he misread his remarks and intended to say "You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."

He should go over to Iraq and apologize to each one of them individually.

Last time I looked, a written statement posted on a website was not a direct apology.

Direct!?

Kerry did it over the internet, wrapping his non-apology apology in another insult.

That Reuter's headline is a big fat lie.
"regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly "

He was against the apology until he was for it.

Worthless Clintonesque non-apology apology. Dixie Chicks all over again.

Direct? The only thing direct was his smears and the "I apologize to no one". MSM's propaganda machine, pumping out lies, again and still.

More Reuters spinning, water carrying for Democrats. Posting something on your website (that rotates on and off the page with other items) is not a direct apology to the troops.

I wish he apologizes on Thursday or Friday... Anyway, Foley apologized and resigned, yet his name is still discussed by the MSM more than a month later. Kerry insulted everybody serving in Iraq, so the MSM should talk about him a bit longer...

The "non-apology" apology. Don't take responsibility for your words. Blame someone else for "misinterpreting" your words and "apologize" because some were offended by said "misinterpretation".

Can't be John Kerry without the obligatory dig at the GOP and of course, blame them for "causing this diversion" in the first place.

Arrogance knows no bounds, apparently.

Reuters, dutifully carrying water for Kerry and the DNC, characterizing his mealy-mouthed non-apology excuse as "apologizes."

Even if he did say this, which it seems he didn't, it doesn't sound like a sincere apology. The MSM/DNC needs to try again.

Reuters wants this over with just as fast as they can possibly bury it. There was a time when it would take only that and similar actions by AP and UPI to spike a story completely. That time is past.
