Yahoo! News ^ | October 30, 2006 | Staff

A list of the safest and most dangerous cities overall, as compiled by Morgan Quitno Press, which bases the rankings on FBI figures released in June. The list starts with the safest cities and ends with the most dangerous.

Only cities that reported crime rates were included in the list. For example, New Orleans was not included this year because its police department did not report figures.

Is that Moonbeam Jerry?

Did you know he carried Maryland as a Presidential candidate? That's how hopeless we are.

"Just pointing out that it is a cultural not a racial thing."

Absolutely. There is a profile of those that are most likely to grow up to become criminals. No fathers is one of the big ones. Substance abuse in the home is another. Parents who do not graduate from High School, parents who are unemployed, and several others we all know.

Yet, if you look at households with all those factors present, you will find those who ended up leading exemplary, crime-free lives.

It is cultural to a great degree, but in the end it is a matter of personal choice. We live in a society that makes it easy to choose to drop out of school, abuse drugs and alcohol, become a parent in your teens, and do any number of self-defeating things. We enable bad choices through government subsidies (rent assistance, food stamps, AFDC, etc.), then act surprised and offended when people make bad choices. We recoil in horror if someone says single parenthood is a bad thing, without a thought for the harm it does to the child. We bemoan the high drop-out rate as the cause of so much poverty, yet ignore the millions who have suceeded without a High School degree but with a strong work ethic.

Maybe it is a bit more compassionate to condemn the bad choices, rather than excuse them in the name of compassion.

Sorry if this rambles a bit, but I have been thinking a lot about this subject lately.

Nobody but! We're apparently going to replace one leftist loon with another.

I live here in Brick and I consider it a town. I also wouldn't say its the most safe ....theres places I wouldn't walk around at night. It used to be a nice rural shore town. Now its strip malls, condo's, housing developments and apartments. Long gone are the farms and most of the wooded areas. Strange thing about Brick is there is no real downtown area. Just a plaza with stores. It has none of the charm of a old town.

"Jerry Springer was a mayor?.........."

Sad but true. Not one of Cincinnati's proudest moments having a piece of oily sleaze like that as a mayor, but thats what you get with Dims.

He was also Ohio's democRAT of the year a few years back.

"And I can guarantee you that if you take any group of any skin tone and raise two-thirds of the boys without fathers, you will have pandaemic of troublemakers."

I so agree and have said the same many times myself. The same is true for welfare. Take any group of people of any race, religion or ethnic origin and make them dependent on the Welfare state and you will ruin them.

Michigan has 2 two cities that rank 2nd and 3rd most dangerous in a liberal democratic controlled State! How many of these dangerous cities are liberally controlled?

ONLY two cities...there's a whole frickin' state out here that isn't bad. Yes, those two cities are under Liberal control. Detroit will only get worse, it looks like Dresden after the bombing NOW.

Our legislature is Republican controlled and our Attorney General is a Republican, too.

You need to look at the state county by county. There are more red than blue ones, but the Dems cheated in Wayne County, where Detroit is. I don't know what Flint's problem is...other than Michael Moore.
