On last night's Hardball, Chris Matthews hinted at what he had in mind regarding the ad the RNC has been running in Tennessee about Dem senatorial candidate Harold Ford, Jr. Claimed Chris:
"It has ethnic overtones, sexual overtones."
Tonight, Matthews took an ugly, explicit leap down into the atavistic mud. Interviewing Sen. Dick Durbin [D-IL] - who was relatively reserved in his comments - Matthews began by asserting that the RNC's goal in running the ad was to "get their point across to perhaps angry white voters, or people who had a problem with a black senator already."
Later, Matthews embraced the absolutely worst stereotypes of a racist South, claiming the RNC was:
"playing on white sensitivities about losing white women to black guys. It was so obvious what they were doing there."
I'd encourage readers to view the ad at Michelle Malkin's site here, and judge for themselves. In my opinion, if anyone is doing his worst to stir racial animosity, it is Chris Matthews.
Aside: earlier in the show, Matthews argued that the Iraq war was intrinsically misconceived since "anybody who studied history for two weeks would have known that Third World countries don't like being invaded by white people from the west." Looks like Matthews has really got it in for The Man!
I honestly never thought of that angle when I saw the ad. I just thought it was a reference to his going to the Playboy party.
"get their point across to perhaps angry white voters, or people who had a problem with a black senator already."
No, no, Chris. We would like Mr. Ford to be a role model for us when he trys to attract white, religious voters over to his side. It really helps a lot, you see, if you actually walk the walk, when you talk the talk.
I sincerely had the same reaction. The racial angle di not enter my mind till I heard people like Matthews raise it.
CNN had a bit on about the President from this morning's presser with Suzanne Malveaux and GET THIS...........on the right bottom was a REACCOURING little banner that said "It's the economy stupid" with a red line going thru economy and the word WAR added.......over and over and over................
the truth isn't funny.........
Can you imagine what they might be saying if that had been a black woman in the commericial instead of white woman? "Well, Republicans must think all black people are sex maniacs!" Honestly, they grasp at straws more with race than with anything else. It's hard to believe anyone is really fooled by this nonsense, but I'll bet more people are then we'd like to admit.
I don't remember Chrissy having a problem with this...

Renee Mullins (voice over): Im Renee Mullins, James Byrds daughter.
On June 7, 1998 in Texas my father was killed. He was beaten, chained, and then dragged 3 miles to his death, all because he was black.
So when Governor George W. Bush refused to support hate-crime legislation, it was like my father was killed all over again.
Call Governor George W. Bush and tell him to support hate-crime legislation.
We wont be dragged away from our future.
First off, I don't see this as a racial issue at all. Chrissy is inventing garbage again, and you can tell he is losing the argument and grasping at straws. In my experience, the folks most upset with black men dating white women are the BLACK women. Mabe Chrissy should measure that pulse.
Having heard the ad a couple of times, it takes a bigot's mind to go where he's gone.
..well I wouldn't put anything past CNN....and most of MSNBC.....
The ad reminds me of Vernon Robinson's ads, I'm only surprised the GOP made it. I liked it, but they usually aren't that blunt.
As to the election, well, maybe they should have kept their mouths shut rather then inciting conservatives. They've no one but themselves to blame for a lot of us that might have sat it out or written a name in protest, had they not been so unbearable the last month. The Foley sickness they plotted let alone the nail on chalkboard preening acting as though our votes don't matter and they can move in whenever they want.
Conservatives outnumber Liberals. Period. If we want to we'll win the Majority of races in good and Bad years and there isn't a damn thing they can do about that except change who they fundamentally are. And they refuse to do that last. I've determined after re-consideration to let the GOP remain a Majority party. My sense is that others like myself have done the same in latter weeks after thinking otherwise previously. The Dems just had to push too far, they deserve the bitternes and anger they are beginning to feel. They alone caused it.
OK, so this white guy has dated black women who were with black men. Why should I be "fearful" of such an ad?
That is good to know...I don't think I have ever sat through a whole Olbermann show...so I definitely don't know who he has on.
Apparently it's now racist to suggest that a white woman would have an interest in a black man. World turned upside down.
Oddly enough I suspect the race angle would have been played in reverse if the woman had been black.
Isn't watching MSDNC covered under the Torture Bill?? Talk about Cruel and Unusual Punishment!
Pray for W and Our Troops
Chrissie is going to have an on-air meltdown in 13 days, as the Dems fail to take either the House or the Senate...
Don't need to suspect, that's a near certainty!
