On last night's Hardball, Chris Matthews hinted at what he had in mind regarding the ad the RNC has been running in Tennessee about Dem senatorial candidate Harold Ford, Jr. Claimed Chris:
"It has ethnic overtones, sexual overtones."
Tonight, Matthews took an ugly, explicit leap down into the atavistic mud. Interviewing Sen. Dick Durbin [D-IL] - who was relatively reserved in his comments - Matthews began by asserting that the RNC's goal in running the ad was to "get their point across to perhaps angry white voters, or people who had a problem with a black senator already."
Later, Matthews embraced the absolutely worst stereotypes of a racist South, claiming the RNC was:
"playing on white sensitivities about losing white women to black guys. It was so obvious what they were doing there."
I'd encourage readers to view the ad at Michelle Malkin's site here, and judge for themselves. In my opinion, if anyone is doing his worst to stir racial animosity, it is Chris Matthews.
Aside: earlier in the show, Matthews argued that the Iraq war was intrinsically misconceived since "anybody who studied history for two weeks would have known that Third World countries don't like being invaded by white people from the west." Looks like Matthews has really got it in for The Man!
Gotta admit, Matthews has his finger on the pulse of the 'sexually fearful white guy' contingent. Give credit where credit is due.
Either way, Chris Matthews is completely wrong with his assessment about the TV commercial being racist. I say that he is showing his own racism by saying what he did.
It is a good ad. Why doesn't the RNC make more ads like this and stay on the offensive? The dems will cry about an ad like this and then we put another one - even worse. It's time Republicans played hardball.
Matthews is the king of the 'sexually fearful (and frustrated) white guy' contingent.
Actually, I rather enjoy watching Chrissie spit on his guests.
Maybe...but then we wouldn't have these threads to go to and LAUGH at him.
Well, he raised the issue after all... ;-)
That is NOT funny.
.at least Chrissy has conservative guests on....you have never seen one on Olbermann except for Buchanan here and there.....Chrissy is a genius compared to that hate monger Olbermann....hands down
Be careful...I suggested this yesterday and I was accused of being subversive. I agree with you, there should be more attacks on Democrats. No more nice guy stuff.
Hey, Chris, thanks for the publicity.
I'd rather see him toothless and me needing my hand fixed.
What conservative guest have you seen on Chrissy's show??
Somebody needs to tell Matthews to get over it
My goodness, the woman is playing a caricature of a playboy bunny. I can't imagine many white guys actually watching this commercial and saying, "Yeah! I want her! And it's guys like Ford that are going off to playboy parties and taking the good ones!"
I'm not prepared to say that black women would be turned against Ford.
Same here, I have dated a few black women, now I'm dating a Latina woman.
...oh my...Chrissy has them on all the time...I don't like him much....but he has some good guests one....just today that Republican strategist...the black fellow ( can't remember his name) was on.....I know Chrissy views everything from a liberal slant....but he has had Mehlman on and a host of other conservatives....just like Hannity and Colmes has liberals on....they don't get fair treatment but at least they are on.....Olbermann is the most hateful POS whose show is only on to ridicule and throw **it at people.....the others at least discuss politics....
The perception/stereotype is that black women are too "demanding" and "accusatory." Hence the reason why black men seek white women or vice-versa.
Hey,leather gloves and a roll of dimes---
