GOV. RENDELL’S ROLE IN BEATING FOCUS OF CIVIL RIGHTS HEARING

Adams, et al. v. Teamsters, Rendell et al. (No. 03 – 3680)

Philadelphia — A special three judge panel of the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals will convene tomorrow to decide whether a Civil Rights suit may proceed against Governor Ed Rendell for his alleged role in the 1998 teamster beating of two Clinton protesters outside Philadelphia’s City Hall.

Rendell, Philadelphia mayor at the time, has since admitted in a deposition to personally inviting teamster boss John Morris and Local 115 members to attend the rally, despite knowing their propensity for using violence. Rendell acknowledged that he had specifically instructed the teamsters to “drown-out” Clinton Protesters.

Moments before the October 2, 1998 beating, Morris was caught by several news cameras marking one Clinton protester for attack by placing a Fedora over his head. The teamsters then charged the man, Don Adams, and his sister—knocking both to the ground before viciously assaulting them. Mr. Adams was treated at an area hospital for a concussion, lacerations, and several bruises.

According to a statement from Morris’ top deputy, Mr. Rendell later tried to console Morris about the negative publicity the teamsters had generated by promising no charges would be filed against him and by suggesting ways to have the victim, Mr. Adams, prosecuted.

In July, 1999, Mr. Adams stood trial after several teamster women alleged he had assaulted them prior to his own beating. Mr. Adams was found not guilty and the women have since recanted their stories.

Morris was never charged. He died in 2001. Five teamsters pled guilty to various assault and conspiracy charges and were given probation.

Three judges from outside the 3rd Circuit’s jurisdiction were recruited to hear the appeal after the appellees filed a motion asking the entire circuit to recuse itself due to the fact Rendell’s wife, Judge Marjorie Rendell, sits on the Circuit.

The case will be heard on Wednesday, October 18, at 1:30 p.m., in the Albert Branson Courtroom, 19th floor, Federal Court House, Philadelphia, PA.

"Another year, another meager modicum of movement in one of the cases resulting from the Teamster beating incident of October 2, 1998."

The Adams' didn't qualify for minority status or this would've been cleared-up -- in their favor, undoubtably -- a long-long time ago & *the* film would've cinched it post haste.
As an old song once said, "In a land known for freedom, how can such a thing be fair..."
Yea, how.

"Think the papers will find it at all interesting to be reminded of the incumbent Governor's brutal past at the height of his reelection campaign?"

The Associated Quislings & like ilk (such as Reuters) wouldn't find this newsworthy at anytime, never-mind an election year.
Unfortunately the nation's information sources have been thoroughly infested with and bought & paid by the Liberal-Socialist left.
What they does get printed -- when not rabidly attacking the right "using any means necessary" -- is pure tabloid garbage & totally useless, including the weather.
Just the way it is.
The seeds of their own demise planted by their own hands.

Hence the coming wave of new fledgling news agencies such as PNI ("Physicist News Agency").
Born of a genuine need to know & the vacuum created by others voluntary corruption. ;^)

Good luck Terri & Don, "It ain't over 'till it's over."

...& it ain't over. ;^)

Teri,

I've noted it before, but you and Don really were the inspiration for me to do this:

I wish there was a way to get the wheels of justice rolling faster.  I couldn't believe it when Rendell became Governor.

He definitely has his thumb on the scale of justice.

Physicist, please add me to the ping list.

It is about time! I have run into those drunk union thugs at Freeper events in Los Angeles. NOT all union members are bad, I know that. But these guys are bussed in, dressed in matching shirts, with matching signs. They are loud and mean and drunk and they pick on women, too. We were at the debate between Bill Simon and Gray Davis. RonDog was there and some other Freepers. The Union thugs were in a group and they were loud. We found an invitation on the groud, that had been passed out to them, inviting them to come protest LOUDLY. Gray won the election, but was KICKED out of office later.

Agreed. This case should have ruined Rendell's bid for governor. But it didn't. The above has been sent out as a press release, ANYWAY.

The first thought that comes to mind about this incident(probably already said) is, justice delayed is justice denied. One has to wonder if the hoops the Adams' are forced to jump through will be worth the eventual outcome. I can't put myself in their shoes and I won't make any judgements either way.

BTW, I wonder if anyone else has noticed the honorable governor Rendell's lack of neck. Could be he has some teamster genes in the blood ;^)

As Don Adams would say, "The next Governor of Pennsylvania is going to be, WOULD YOU BELIEVE, Lynn Swann."

Dog gone, I just reposted this article. did a search on "Rendell" and didn't find it.

In any case a repost isn't that bad, and the thing that amazed me was that it's getting covered by WTAE TV this morning in Pittsburgh.

I'm trying to air it on the radio stations I work for this AM as well. They'll probably pass claiming it's just mud slinging politics from the Swann campaign, but I wrote the story and put it in the stack.
