Vanity: John Cougar's "Our Country" Chevy Commercial

Posted on 10/05/2006 1:48:52 PM PDT by slowhand520

Anyone else peeved as I am at this nonsense? I am assuming it is a patriotic song. The images you see during this commercial are Vietnam War protestors, the peace sign, Nixon waving goodbye before he gets on his helicopter, and Katrina flooding. What a depressing commercial. Kind of defeatist if you ask me. Thoughts?

Honda doesn't make a truck. I'm sorry but the Ridegline is not a truck. Nice copy of the Avalanche though. I guess Nissan has solved their brake and rearend troubles on the Titan.

My Chrysler 2001 Grand Caravan has been a trooper with over 100,000 miles.

I have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 330,000+ miles - Still going strong.

I haven't seen it yet... its depressing that he's a Hoosier..

No its not. IU is pretty damn liberal and he is always at the IU games. If all goes according to plan we'll be adding another P to the bucket.

It is a rather bizarre ad. I think GM has totally lost its corporate mind.

ND is more Chicago than IN.

John Mellancamp is a flaming liberal and he is an embarrassment to the Hoosier state, just as you say.

Having said all that, it really is a weird, depressing ad. It is kind of like when GM ran those "Official car of Disneyland" ads and some stand up comic starting joking about "Yeah, I wanna drive what Goofy's driving". Now it is more like "Yeah, I wanna drive what the other Losers are driving".

huh? I'm originally from NW Indiana anyhow(I lived kinda close to Purdue Calumet Campus)... ND is NE Indiana(South Bend opposite side of the state as Chicago)...

Chevy trying to sell to the MoveOn.org market. All 1000 of them. How stupid.

I saw the Ad the other day and was shocked it was for Chevy. I sat and thought about what must be going on in the minds of the leaders of GM. I wondered if they even know who their buyers are anymore. I wondered why in the world they would choose JCM for any Chevy Ad no matter how catchy the tune might be. How out of touch has GM really become? Chevy truck buyers are PATRIOTIC hard working Americans. Not left wing, JCM loving, peace sign wearing, anti-war activists.

Maybe I should short GM. If Chevy doesn't even know who their customers are anymore, bankruptcy can't be too far off.

not only that according to these advertising geniuses the 60's was the only decade that mattered

I heard a radio commercial for retirement planning with all sorts of 60s crap in it. So beter times are right around the corner. Soon they'll be hawking tie-dyed tombstones, which will make me smile...

Equally repulsive is the Arby's commercial with the two burglars and a bound and gagged hostage being overlooked by a cop who is thinking about an Arby's meal.

Me, too. That whole "bold" series of ads that Ford has come up with all need to be cancelled, IMO.

oh, I also notice that Chicago TV talks about ND as if it were in Illinois.(I guess they adopted them since the Illini stink in football) :D

Well, figure it this way. Which has more Catholic High Schools, Chicago or all of Indiana? I always thought of ND as kind of a sleepaway sports camp for ChiTown kids so they could go see what farmland looks like and drink themselves into oblivion.

As bad as the Illini are right now, I can see why the native americans want them to change their name.
