He shouldn't have lied about his past, there is this little thing called the internet. He should have just fessed up and said he changed his mind.

Romney can't possibly deny he's been for abortion in the past. If he's changed his mind on the issue, he needs to admit it and clearly explain what caused the change. But the way he's acting now it looks like a convenient switcheroo to make himself a more palatable candidate for President.

He is from Massachusetts; given the voting demographic I would expect him to be pro-choice.
That said, I agree. We have enough pandering politicians, just state your position and move on. One thing I admire about GWB is that he takes some unpopular positions.

I never thought I would vote for Romney for president, but compared to all the other serious likely Republican candidates I've seen, he is far and away the best one out there.
He may not be my ideal candidate, but I think he is definitely the best choice of the current pack.
If he runs, there's a good chance I'll vote for him unless some better dark horse comes along.

I won't vote for a pro-baby-killing Republican--in a primary or general election.
Enough is enough.

What a nice little hit piece.
Shows that you Romney-haters are getting nervous out there.
Not a single quote where Romney says he's pro choice, so instead you folks just decide for him what he means by the quotes you can find, then say he lied about it.
Did you learn that at DU?
Either find a quote where he calls himself pro-choice, or admit you cant, and that by calling him a liar, it is YOU who is lying.
Be against the man if you wish, but cant you do any better than to put words in his mouth that he didn't say?
I'll be laughing at you in 2008 when Romney wins.

Some Republicans may consider Romney a conservative. Whether Romney is a principled conservative is a matter for further debate.

As an active Mormon myself, I am very uncomfortable with Mitt. He appears to be a crass opportunist, willing to say anything to get elected. If he was truly pro-choice and now is not, he should publicly admitt he's changed his mind and explain it, but to maintain a 'foolish consistance' or obsfuscate does no one any good.

He's the governor of Massachussetts. Calling himself 'pro-life' in that state to please a bunch of politically ignorant retards who don't even live in that state would be political suicide. I'd rather him BE pro-life and not announce it while being Governor than to announce it just to make way for a pro-abortionist. Geez. I swear that sometimes the pro-life movement is as myopic as the muslims. You'll cut your own throat on principle and gain NOTHING by doing so.

What's the quota on FR . . . is it one Romney hit piece per day? Two per day? Maybe three? Sounds like a bunch of people out there are starting to sweat a Romney candidacy.
Allow me to do your work for the rest of the week:
MITT ROMNEY FARTS UNDER THE COVERS
MITT ROMNEY ONCE PULLED A ROLLING RIGHT ON RED. IN TRAFFIC!
MITT ROMNEY LIKES STRAWBERRY JELLY--NOT GRAPE--ON HIS PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES
MITT ROMNEY IS THE GOVERNOR OF MASSACHUSETTS--SO HE MUST BE A COMMIE
MITT ROMNEY DOESN'T HATE HOMOSEXUALS ENOUGH--HE MUST BE ONE!
MITT ROMNEY GOES TO A DIFFERENT CHURCH THAN WE DO. HE WORSHIPS SATAN!
Paid-to-post posters on FR really suck.

I'm no Mitt Romney fan but let's not eat our own here. Let's not forget the Gipper's 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of Republicans. Even RINOs which I suspect that most will ultimately conclude that Romney is. If I have to vote for Romney, it will be with my left hand as my right hand would be firmly holding my nose.

What's the big deal? When I was young and foolish I was "pro-choice."
With Allen imploding, Romney is looking better and better to me.
To: SDGOP
So, he's not "pro-choice" but he is in favor of legal abortion in this country (as recently as at least 2002). I see. Talk about trying to have it both ways - even for a politician this is pathetic...

"One does not suddenly recognize the humanity of the embryo after a lifetime of promotion and support for abortion law."
This was a further sentence from the article about Mitt Romney lying about his abortion views. I can truly see how someone can and does come to a pro-life stance after understanding just what embryonic stem cell experimentation is all about. I am willing to give Romney the benefit of getting enlightened about destroying tiny human lives. Read up on the Apostle Saul(Paul) When he got up on his horse he was a Christian killer. When God knocked him off his horse, he was a Christian. Change can happen in a twinkling of an eye. Let's hope Romney's change is real. Until we know for sure, it is not right to call him a liar.

Go Back to 1998 and read all the postings from anti-Bush freepers. Hell, I was one of them. Lots of "I will stay home or write in a name" claims were made. Lots of articles about Dubya's cocaine use. It really caused quite a rift. Jim Robinson himself had many harsh judgments of Bush.
Bluster and fluster 2 years out regarding viewpoints that are proclaimed to be "deal killers" won't matter a whole lot on election day 2008. When the Democrat party chooses a nominee the enemy will have a face. And a record. And a scary philosophy. Regardless of what we are saying now, most of us will coalesce with the Republican nominee. Given the choice between "sick" (weak republican) and "dead" (socialist dem), most freepers will choose "sick". A dead man has no hope.
But we have mountains of threats, hysterics, tantrums, and trashing in front of us before we reach that point. And it matters now because it will influence to some degree the nominee we choose. But it will not matter much once the nominee is named.
