President Bush told a group of radio talk show hosts that the war on terror must be framed in terms of values, not religion.
Coulter found herself in the uncharacteristic position of being upstaged by her introducer, Mike Gallagher. He told the audience he was fresh back from an hour-and-45-minute session which President Bush held in the Oval Office Friday afternoon with him and four other conservative talk show hosts: Atlantas Neal Boortz, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and Michael Medved. Rush Limbaugh couldnt make it, he said.
Though he said this session was supposed to be off the record, Gallagher described it at some length, including Bushs observation to the right-wing radio jocks that the War on Terror has to be about right versus wrong, because if its about Christianity versus Islam, well lose.
Remind me never to invite you to an off-the-record session, Coulter said after his introduction.
Indeed.
Still, if Bush said what Gallagher said he did, hes right. Islam is, of course, a big piece of the puzzle. But the battle over ideas has to be fought by finding common moral ground, not bashing Islam in general.
Its no small irony that this was revealed while introducing, Ann invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity Coulter.
Any child with the ability to use a computer and google stuff can up with tons of muslim websites in support of those who act against the terror. there's even a muslim commander of a british battle group.
Capitalizing words or using multiple question marks btw are a sure sign of emotional over-envolvement.
"Christianity is based on a reasonable view of the universe, which came to us through God's revelation to the Jews and the philosophical foundations of the Greeks that are expressed in the New Testament.
Islam is fundamentally irrational and has a concept of a god who is arbitrary and irrational and bound by no interior consistency, and who can be known only through his draconian laws.
Oddly enough, secularism has the same view of an irrational, meaningless universe, which runs on laws somehow mysteriously produced and imposed by matter itself, but which also is fundamentally without a purpose or rational direction."
'Excellent. Well said!' DITTOS
"If President Bush said that, he's wrong. It is about Islam, a primitive, barbaric religion. And that guy Mo' was a freak, too."
BUMP.
I think the pres was demonstrating a higher thought process. This is not an esoteric religious debate, this is a bullets and blood debate.
I think the difference is that defeating Japan was sufficient to defeat Shintoism, because it was a purely nationalist religion. There is no one country we could defeat to defeat Islam.
Well, maybe taking out Mecca would work...but I think that's sort of a last resort!
Islam is about KEEPING people ignorant and barbaric. The "enlightenment" of islam was when a bunch of arab merchant found they could sucker venitians into buy some ancient scrolls.
"The problem is that the Muslims are using bombs and bullets. Not ideas."
Our ideas are better...but so are our bombs and bullets. It's time we started expending a lot of all the above. Islam understands one thing: power. We need to demonstrate power, and the unflinching moral authority to use that power.
We do not look strong with the sort of self-loathing approach we currently take to international conflict.
Were I "King," I'd declare REAL war, and start attacking every terrorist stronghold I could identify in the Muslim world. I'd level every neighborhood I could identify where terrorists were harbored and supported.
Tehran? Level it.
I'd make it so painful to even be near a terrorist that no Muslim would consider it.
I would bet real money that the president said "JUST about..."
The Greek Independence in 1821 was not JUST Christianity vs Islam and the Christians did win.
Whatever he meant, this statement will be interpreted a hundred different ways...The media will drive this..not to Bush's advantage.
sw
???
What could be more important than meeting with the President???
Absolutely correct, plus Islam has no head such as an emperor, pope, or other such figure.
.
That was exactly my point in my earlier posts. Islamists believe 100% in right versus wrong. Pure Islam teaches them that they are good, and on the side of God. We, the unbelievers, are evil, and stand with the great corrupter, Satan.
Telling fundamentalist Muslims that they need to be good people and give up jihad goes over as well as it would if the Devil himself appeared in your living room and told you that if you were a good person and went on a random killing spree, you'd go straight to heaven.
You'd probably pass.
Jihad is commanded by God. To a Muslim, anyone telling you jihad is wrong must be getting their ideas from a source other than God. Anyone telling you jihad is evil, well...
Perhaps, Mr. Bush. But if it's about Islam versus everyone else (which is really what it is), then we'll eventually win.
The president has stated since the beginning that this war was not with Islam, a religion of peace. How many times has Bush told us this. Time and time again.
I don't care how loudly the public or the base scream about this, but it is true. We are not at war with Islam. Framing the war in that context would be fool hardy at this point. Some here would welcome it being framed that way, but it would only bring the violence to our own shores, nay...to our own cities.
Americans in general are not prepared for it. All the bravado here wouldn't protect us in a guerrilla battle waged in the streets of Detroit, New York, Chicago, La.
