Arrested Pulitzer Prize winning Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein, who took the infamous pictures of a terrorist execution on Haifa Street in Baghdad, and is notorious in the blogosphere for his collusion with jihadis as they tried to kill Americans, is the subject of a very lengthy attempt by the AP to whitewash his acts: U.S. holds AP photographer in Iraq 5 mos. (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin.)
The AP spins furiously and buries it in the middle, but heres some interesting information from the US Army:
The military said Hussein was captured with two insurgents, including Hamid Hamad Motib, an alleged leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. He has close relationships with persons known to be responsible for kidnappings, smuggling, improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and other attacks on coalition forces, according to a May 7 e-mail from U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Jack Gardner, who oversees all coalition detainees in Iraq.
The information available establishes that he has relationships with insurgents and is afforded access to insurgent activities outside the normal scope afforded to journalists conducting legitimate activities, Gardner wrote to AP International Editor John Daniszewski.
Hussein proclaims his innocence, according to his Iraqi lawyer, Badie Arief Izzat, and believes he has been unfairly targeted because his photos from Ramadi and Fallujah were deemed unwelcome by the coalition forces.
That Hussein was captured at the same time as insurgents doesnt make him one of them, said Kathleen Carroll, APs executive editor. Journalists have always had relationships with people that others might find unsavory, she said. Were not in this to choose sides, were to report whats going on from all sides.
Notice: the Associated Press received this information from the Army four months ago in May, but did not reveal it until now.
UPDATE at 9/17/06 10:14:22 am:
Correction: Ive just received an email from the Associated Press (that was quick) saying that Bilal Hussein did not take the photos of the execution on Haifa Street. (They didnt dispute anything else in my post.)
President Bush has already made our policy clear on this. Choose sides. You are either with us, or against us.
In a regular battlefield with drawn lines, mishmash like that would be easier to take. This is a completely different brand of war, a war in which the enemy is cowardly and slinks around in the shadows. They torture people and threaten their families with terrible harm if they don't operate the car bomb right. We can't provide this 'equal basis' business in a war like this.
I hope they found the insurgents by tracking the AP guy, though. That would be a great story.
You might be shocked to find out that many in the modern MSM would tell you that Ernie Pyle would behave the same as they do. They would point to his criticism of higher HQ types as being the same as their collaborating with Jihadists.

No, the CAMERA took the photos. And all evidence and copies have been destroyed, per the new advisories from the New York Times (How To Colloborate With "The Freedom Fighters" And Not Get Caught).
Definitely!
Keep him locked up.
Another Mike Wallace award winner for biased journalism.
The ASS press is a liberal organization, hands down. Just like about 97% of the so-called "journalists" in the LameStream Media.
Great graphic, as always!
Ya'll know it's flash the ,,PRESS PASS,,wave by by time??
Thanks,,I thought that was him,,,,
AP is and has been an active supporter of terror and a steadfast opponent of anything having to do with the Bush administration.
Tell me, Ms. Carroll, who were the Berlin, Rome and Tokyo correspondents for AP in WWII? Not to mention who might've been covering Kasserine Pass, Anzio, Normandy, Tarawa, Leyte Gulf or Okinawa from behind the enemy lines.
This "Citizen Of The World" crap from the American press has got to stop. If they're not interested in winning, O.K., stay home. But don't create and distribute enemy propaganda and say "it's our job".
Bump
Roger-That,,,
You bet -
The AP ghouls are sure grinning about winning the Pulitzer Prize in the AP photo of their own AP staff in our little slideshow I posted here
And the statement I used by AP in our animated graphic is exact to the word
They talk on the record - they take photographs of themselves
We toss it right back in their traitorous lying money-grabbing sell-for-blood drive-by media faces
Sounds like an internal security matter for the Iraqi's. Tell them to do whatever they like with him, just don't let him back here.
