If true this is extremely bad news for DeWine. The last Rasmussen poll had him down only 3, and the one before that only 2. DeWine's numbers in Rasmussen's polls have falling from 46 percent in June to 41 percent now. Brown's have risen from 39 to 47 in the same period. Whatever DeWine is trying isn't working.

Gallup had DeWine down 6 at the end of August, Survey USA had him down 8 in early August, and the Columbus Dispatch had him down 8 in late July. DeWine has not led in any poll since June 20th (Rasmussen). Brown has led in the last six straight polls and in 8 of the last ten.

It's probably neck and neck as most "impartial" polling has a heavily Democrat bias.

Turnout is the important thing in an off year election. We must turn out our voters.

Well .. if Mr. DeWine wants to get re-elected .. NOW'S THE TIME TO APPLY A LITTLE PRESSURE .. AND THEN HOLD HIM TO IT AFTER THE ELECTION!!

Isn't this the blubbering embarrassment of a Republican that was causing grief over Gitmo?

Too bad the seat will be lost but the loss of Dewine is not a bad thing.

In fact, I would love it if all of the "gang of 14" lost their jobs.

Agreed. Dewine is a prick. Santorum and the other hand would be a real loss. I'll donate cash to Santorum and heap scorn on Dewiner.

Dewine's polling numbers might improve if he starting acting like a conservative.

There's the rub. After the election, we have to wait another 6 years before we can apply pressure again.

Maybe the GOP in OH ought to do what the Dems do in NJ and dump Dewine in favor of a better candidate!

This is really discouraging though. It will be worse if Talent loses too. If Repubs can't reelect senators in major states like this then the trend is very bad. Plus the Dems will be crowing over their victories and the terrorists will be sitting back in their caves laughing at how divided the American people are. Pretty sad.

Dewine has many flaws but Brown will be much worse as he is a far left wing liberal. He will vote against every Bush nominee and seek to undermine the war along with his Demo colleagues. If Ohio wants to send this guy to the Senate then they shouldn't complain if there is another terror attack in the US.

Unfortunately, its Independents that do the electing.

I think I despise his son P-P-P-Patrick more than the Senator. We, as conservatives, deserve to be defeated for allowing turds like this Senator to prosper...

Republicans do most of their oppositional campaign ads during October. It looks bad for DeWine now, but I wouldn't be surprised if the October polling shows a different result.

In other words, it's tied. Sorry, but whatever things you think are great about Ras, I trust him as much as I trust Sandy Berger.

And if it's tied, DeWine wins, because the GOP will get out the vote this year.

Neither DeWine nor Talent will lose. And we had a primary here, and the two conservatives combined didn't get 25%.

Now, the reality is that DeWine pretends to be a conservative in his ads and public appearances, then votes like a Dem half the time.

I wish we could've substituted John Kasich in OH. It truly is hard to overstate how angry the voters in that state are at the GOP because of the situation there (stemming from Gov. Taft and his criminal incompetence, and the establishment RINOs infesting the legislature). DeWine simply can't inspire the confidence to bring out the Republican base, and if he goes down to Brown (who has previously won statewide before as Secretary of State), it means Voinovich will be equally vulnerable in the future (whose performance is nearly as bad as DeWine's). Just goes to show you how corrosive it can be with RINOs leading a Republican state instead of Conservatives. :-(

Losing to Sherrod Brown is almost as pathetic as losing to Bill Nelson. Sheesh.

The main reason for this fiasco is Boob Taft. He may single-handedly drag down the entire Republican ticket. It's appalling that a conservative leaning state may elect a near-Marxist like Sherrod Brown.

Been hearing this since '96.

It's a weak argument for supporting an incumbent who has proved himself to be no friend of conservatives.

dewine is part of the problem in Washington
