ABC Stands By Its 9/11 Story — Almost

After minor edits in response to Democratic critics, the miniseries will air as scheduled. It's already set off a bitter election-year dispute. Walt Disney Co.'s ABC is forging ahead with plans to air a miniseries starting Sunday despite controversy over its efforts to dramatize — and some say unfairly politicize — the events leading up to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Producers said late Friday that they had finished making minor edits to "The Path to 9/11" amid a firestorm of protests from leading Democrats including Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who warned that telecasting "right-wing political propaganda" might violate the terms of ABC's government-mandated broadcast license.

and that's why the Dems got this film sanitized.

There's now way it's been sanitized. A few changes here and there on the controversial scenes, but the missed opportunities of both the Clinton years and the Bush months will be clear to the masses, along with a new appreciation of the terrorist evil we face in the future.

OMGoodness. The Dems are going to FREAK out... Ha. No matter what Bush does, he can't change the fact that America believes in him more than Clinton, at least on national security. When I was a lib, if conservatives were upset about a movie (or libs actually) I would see it. More people will watch this, and even with edits, they will remember what was most important to Clinton - sex. What was most important to Bush - protecting America.

If Jimmy Carter didn't produce at least one, I don't know who could have.

without the specific identification of persons directly responsible for giving certain orders, and making certain decisions, and the portrayal of why they did what they did - it will have been sanitized.

"Now I suppose we will see with the edits, the Clintons coming off better than Bush. Hmmmm..........."

Highly doubtful. Consider: Clinton is still insisting the film be pulled. He's not satisfied with "editing". No amount of editing can help his image.

I just finished a heated argument with a lefty teacher on my union teacher website. He, too, claims that ABC is "right wing". It's very difficult to argue with someone about that. His evidence is that Jeb Bush forced Eisner to withdraw support for Michael Moore by threatening an end to tax breaks. I had to point out that Jeb wasn't stupid and would never tick off the state's biggest bonanza because of family pride. This maroon didn't get it, I lost it and proceeded to flame him in a manner Jim Robinsom would never permit here.

If a federal worker did what Senator Reid did, he would be severely reprimanded or possibly fired for official abuse.

News Flash: Senator Reid is a "federal worker". OK, he's a Senator, but isn't a Senator also a federal worker? After all, he works for the federal government, therefore he is a federal worker. Nuff said.

Senator Reid can criticize the movie, but he cannot evoke ABC broadcast license and indirectly link it to what he wants from ABC.

Citizen Harry Reid has every right to criticize anything that he wants to, our Constitution guarantees it! But Senator Reid cannot use his capacity as a federal official to threaten the free speech of a private enterprise such as ABC Corporation, or you, or me, or anyone else. This is called "prior censorship" and it is strictly forbidden in the first amendment and was upheld many times by the Supreme Court within the 20th century when electronic broadcasting (radio and television) first came into being.

If Dems can revoke a license for "right wing political propaganda" then the GOP can argue that MSM can have their license revoked for "jihadist propaganda" when covering the war in Iraq and WOT.

Dems can't revoke anything, they're just blowing lots of smoke here .. typical of them, ehhh? If they even tried to get ABC's corporate charter revoked there would be an uprising of the sort that we haven't seen in this country since 1776! Even the MSM would come to the defense of their compatriots in the media against those "facist Democrats" ...

Ol' Harry and his Dem lemmings are so far out on a limb on this "Path To 9/11" thing that it isn't even funny anymore, but I'm kinda enjoying watching them box themselves into a hole that they cannot dig out of :)

Get the popcorn ready :)

All the demands that ABC kill it may end up in a lot more people watching.

Say that again in spades. The libs guilt and their fear of being exposed has done just that !!!!

They'll have to open a door into their face again in Congress with some of the legislation Pubbies and W are proposing. Lots of time before the election....I'm predicting minor losses for Pubbies, but nothing worse.

It was 8 months but when did Bush get all his cabinet in their post? With ALgore dragging out the election and the dems dragging their feet with the confirmations how long did he really have?

without the specific identification of persons directly responsible for giving certain orders, and making certain decisions, and the portrayal of why they did what they did - it will have been sanitized.

But when that information is not known clearly or where there are multiple versions of the details of an event, how can you say who was responsible for giving certain orders?

Regardless, it will be clear that SOMEONE in the Clinton administration didn't pull the trigger when they had a chance and didn't stop Bin Laden over a period of several years. It will be clear that they treated it like a law enforcement problem and not a war on terror. It will be clear that timidity ruled the day.

They can't sanitize that out of the movie without tossing it in the can.

And this gives a new impetus for Americans to dig in and read the various accounts and listen to people like Buzz Patterson, Michael Schuerer, Gary Schroen and others and then decide who they believe.

MANY people are going to be very skeptical of anything the Clinton team says after they have raised such an overblown and heavy-handed protest and attempt at censorship.

Oooh boy. Do you suppose the other nets and broadcasters around the US felt a chill with Reid's threat? This is the bigger story, imho. Threatening free speech...my God...they had better take another look.

If libs rule, THEY will attempt to dictate programming, radio, tv, whatever they can get their hands upon. They scare the hell out of me.

You know, apparently Bush doesn't come off faring well either

And supposedly that pathetic loser Clark is shown in a great light

In addition supposedly Rice is pictured as being unaware of Bin Laden ( according to Clark)which I thought had been debunked so it seems the 911 report forms the basis of this show

And of course the 911 hearings were a farce where the GOP got rolled by the democrats again

The real truth still won't be revealed

I hope the opening scene shows a bunch of senators in a smoke-filled room, scheming to block the movie.

With the audio loud and clear.
