Half Ton of Bomb Material Stored a Few Miles from the White House (By ABC news team)
ABC News Blogs ^ | September 08, 2006 | Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz

Posted on 09/08/2006 5:28:21 PM PDT by indcons

With virtually no questions asked, an undercover ABC News team was able to purchase a half ton of one of the world's most dangerous bomb-making materials and move it into a storage shed only a few miles from the White House and the U.S. Capitol.

Despite its use in the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building, there are still no federal laws restricting the purchase of ammonium nitrate, a chemical fertilizer, widely sold at farm supply stores.

The ABC News undercover team made the purchases, in cash, at farm supply stores in North Carolina and Virginia and were never once asked for any valid ID.

Legislation requiring buyers of ammonium nitrate to be registered by the federal government have been blocked by the agricultural industry, according to the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Congressman Pete King (R-NY).

The results of the ABC News investigation are "a wake-up call that the American people and the Congress needs," King said. A law requiring sellers to record purchases has passed King's committee and is awaiting a vote by the full House.

Brian Ross' full investigative report will air Monday on World News with Charles Gibson and as part of an ABC News Special Report on the fifth anniversary of 9/11. (10pm EST/9pm Central)

Half a ton. That's...a thousand pounds? That's ten 100 pound bags of fertilizer bought in various places and brought together in DC? Do I have that right?

Are they aware that you can drive a car right into the city? Do they know that people just walk around in our nation's capitol?

I was wondering whether it was fertilizer or gasoline. And what does this prove? Nothing.

LOL, and after 9-11, there are still student visas, open borders to both the north and south, the military is not being used to protect our borders despite the constitution mandating it. only 2% of our cargo is scanned and searched, old people are forced to be searched at the airports while dark males go right on by. Chemical companies, tanker trucks and tanker cars are not monitored or have enough security... etc...... no surprise from me.

How did they buy it? Where did they buy it? This story is a bomb; typical bombastic reporting from the bombs at abc.

In this case, journalists aren't journalists either. This ABC News team simply seems to be the advance guard for usual suspects - Bin Laden and co.

This is pretty sad that they were able to do this. There SHOULD be outrage. People in this forum are WAYYYYYY to easy to just take up for whoever. This needs to be investigated and there needs to be better safeguards.

Having drawn heavy (and unfounded) fire for "The Path to 9/11", I assume this is ABC's way of being "fair and balanced".

Gee, I hope they never find out that it's stored in maintenance sheds on school grounds all over the country as well.

I've got news for ABC nightly news....no one much watches you......especially now that Charles Gibson is the anchor....his left loon attitude toward America can be felt when he reports. The slant is easily identified. And as much as they'd like to think people buy into their crap hook line and sinker...they once again are mistaken and out of touch...with the real America. [it appears they've convinced their selves the 2004 election was just a fluke]

Seems to have been only the fertilizer. As somebody pointed out upthread, 1/2 ton=approx. 1000 pounds.

Will ABC try to use TATP or RDX the next time around? Guess one can never put such nonsense past them. What irritates me the most is that ABC goes around playing this cloak and dagger stuff while refusing to stand up to the truth re: the clintonistas and 911.

If they hadn't been able to purchase the fertilizer, they'd be doing a story on how Big Brother government intrusion is preventing farmers from make a living.

LOL... Hey, Brian Ross and Rhonda Schwartz,

What makes you think that the evil and dastardly Karl Rove isn't aware of your little scheme and is just waiting for more evidence before he busts you and Rhonda for your little plot?

Brian and Rhonda, Do you hear America laughing at you?

True-the prills design makes it hard to use as an explosive, but not impossible.

If the OK City Bombers had used explosive grade AMFO, the damage would have been much worse. The fertilizer/diesel mix they used did not detonate at its full potential.

And do you know how many gallons are stored in containers within 3 miles of the White House? I shudder..... with laughter.

What possible difference could it make how close they can store the stuff to the White House? Any real terrorist would store it out in the middle of nowhere and build the bomb out there. They wouldn't try to produce the bomb within 3 miles of the white house, since they would still have to drive it in close enough to cause trouble.

This JUST In.

Material capable of killing every man, woman and child on earth found to be pumped underground the White House and Capitol Building....

Experts say that someone has installed a system to transport this liquid underground, away from prying eyes, into the very halls of power. The President has not commented on this obvious breach of security, and the failure of the Bush administration to address the glaring security holes post 9-11.

Chemical analysis shows that the dangerous liquid in question is Di-Hydrous Oxide - which, if inhaled in sufficient quanities leads to certain death. It is thought that the large quanities being piped into the facilities were to insure a massive dose could be administered sufficient to kill anyone.

Stay tuned to this station for more crucial updates.
