Half a ton. That's...a thousand pounds? That's ten 100 pound bags of fertilizer bought in various places and brought together in DC? Do I have that right?

Are they aware that you can drive a car right into the city? Do they know that people just walk around in our nation's capitol?

How did they buy it? Where did they buy it? This story is a bomb; typical bombastic reporting from the bombs at abc.

My math too, back when I farmed I could have blown all of DC up, according to their logic.

I have read news articles where the writer was astonished that people can just walk into a gun store. As if, I suppose, people should levitate in, or walk through the walls, or parachute in.

That's nothing. Today, I moved forty 50 pound bags of clay from one location to another in the city where I work, and nobody said a thing.

I could have mixed ammonium nitrate in with that, and it would have been REAL suspicious, an' all.

Don't know what you could do with it, but hey - it would have had ammonium nitrate in it!

;-)

You could probably cruise around to all the Home Depots, Lowes, Ace Hardwares, and garden centers in any given 15 mile radius in the DC suburbs, and buy one bag of fertilizer in each store, and get that much ammonium nitrate.

Sheesh.

Yes, but you can't get the bomb material close enough to the White House to do any significant damage, since G Street is closed to vehicular traffic. On the south side, the Ellipse is in the way, on the west side the old Executive Office Building, and the east side has the Treasury Building.

More likely, twenty 50 pound bags. I usually bought around 8 to handle annual chores around my old house with an acre of lawn. 3 or 4 trips adds up to half a ton pretty quickly.
