Et tu, Colin?
CFP ^ | Sunday, September 3, 2006 | John Burtis

Caesar was stabbed, in the end, by one of his closest and most loyal friends, Brutus. And George Bush was betrayed throughout the course of the entire Fitzgerald inquisition by his one time friend and close confidant, Colin Powell, who knew all along the involvement of Richard Armitage, and chose to keep quiet. Loyalty runs between many extremes.

...snip...

With Colin Powell, as with Mr. Armitage, loyalty has finally gone the way of the Model-T. And sadly, Mr. Powell's damage will be enshrined forever by the left in what appears to be their longest running hit piece of modern times. Et tu, Colin?

I just want to know if Fitzy had a possible gag order on Powell or Armitage perhaps? To you legal experts out there in Freeperland...is that a possibility here?

That is the reason both Poweel and Armitage quit the administration on the same day. Actually that is washingtonese for GOT FIRED!

One other thing... If Collin Powell was innocent why doesn't he say so. His silence speaks volumes.

Articles in the press say Armitage told Powell what he had done. Powell told others in the state department not to tell the president anything but the bare necessities. And to not mention Armitage's name.

The only comment the press has been able to get out of Powell IS STONE SILENCE. He won't even tell the press NO COMMENT... becuase they would report it.

Inocent men can't wait to make their case for inocence ... guilty men hide and hope it just all goes away.

Yesterday's NYT has an article obviously stenotyping the Armitage talking points. It says he told Powell. He wrote a resignation letter which Powell had him tear up because he thought it would reveal he was the source. Then Powell had Ford, the State Dept general counsel tell Gonzales they were turning over some info to the prosecutor but without telling him what it was and under circumstances where Gonzales couldn't ask.

In 2000, many Pubbies were hoping Colin P would run for the WH at the top of the GOP ticket.

Many changed their minds, especially after Powell's not-so-illustrious stint as Secretary of State.

What charge? No laws were broken. No one should be "arrested" and the independent counsel should have folded his tent.

Again NO LAWS WERE BROKEN!!!!!

I've got several articles in the FR past that criticize Powell as a "ticket-puncher", from the Army...in his whole life.

I'm sure Colin Powell will not be on the Bush 41 or Bush 43
Xmas card list this year, or any year in the future. What he allowed happen is reprehensible in the extreme.

I remember after 9/11 and all the talk of war, I said then that Powell was the weak link and I was right.

I also remember getting slammed all over the ball park for thinking so.

I agree with everything you said.

"What a POS he has become."

According to someone I know who served with him, he was always pretty much that way. Whatever got him ahead, no matter who got stepped on.

There is no need to go there. Powell's affliction is nothing new in the history of man...he climbed the ladder on rungs made of shrewd political moves, not achievement. Regardless of this Plame mess, I haven't liked Powell for a long time. It was easy to figure out that he and his were responsible for the endless anti-administration leaks, especially since a good portion of them were about him resigning.

I think everyone would benefit by going back a few months to when this 'Plame outing' first became the focal point.

Knowing what we now know it makes so many of the posts make sense and the way I see it is the Wilson/Plame 'outing' was nothing more than a fabricated diversion away from the real story about the involvement of Rockefeller, Mary McCarthy, the rogues in the CIA, Wilson and the Niger yellowcake and the 'Food For Oil' scandal.

Wilson and his cohorts led us down the yellow path and we all foolishly followed.

Powell is worthless. He bungled his job in the State Department and everyone else won Gulf War I.

I didn't like Powell when he went caterwauling during the first Gulf War, especially "The Highway of Death".

Even less when I listened to the audio book of "The Commanders".

The repeat of FNS is coming up on FNC with the panel ahead (after Arlen). Schmucky was on and said he owes no apology to Rove, but the White House should apologize??? He was in bed, so to speak, with the whole WIlson cabal. Eventually this will all be tied back to the Rockerfeller memo, whree it was documented that the democrats were going to go after and release intelligence information to undermine a sitting war time President. The truth outs eventually -- just like this truth is now out. Armitage was the leaker, Powell knew and was silent, Fitzy knew and was silent. WOuldn't surprise me one bit that Chrissy Matthews/Fat Dim Russert/Andrea Mitchell, et al also knew the truth, but continued their attack on the Bush Presidency in order to sway the election. Patience is a virtue that President Bush has. I don't and want Fitzy fired now, and I want Powell and Armitage to be forced to issue a public apology to Rove and Libby and the President and Vice President.
