Some sensitive democrat supporters got my previous post pulled and I admit I went overboard but I am just so angry at how ridiculous some people get.
The whole Idea that because the republicans haven't done everything you want you want them out and want the democrats in TO SEND A MESSAGE.
The only message it sends is you want Bush impeached or at least a long costly trial that will weaken the US in the world and embolden the terrorists.
You want a much better chance at much higher taxes.
You want a very good chance we cut and run from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Tell me these things won't happen if the dems take over and since when do conservatives want cut and run and higher taxes?
And why do you want the terrorists emboldened by a weakened Bush?
Yes he hasn't been perfect but the alternative is much worse.
The Republican congress under Bush has been both good and bad for conservatives.
But the dems would make it 100 percent bad.
I agree on Bush's immigration bill. But it's much better than anything the dems want and if the dems win that's what will happen.
And another point if a vacancy happens in the SC right now at worst we'd get a middle of the road person if the dems win they'd make the most liberal justice look like Rush in comparison.
Vote republican even if you have to hold your nose and work at getting better candidates in 08.
If you truly believe the dem you'd vote for is better you're probably misled at best but vote for him/her.
But just to send a message don't do it.
It took the dems 12 years to take control if they do in 06. Do you want to wait that long to take control back?
I've been disappointed in Bush myself. But when I think of the alternative I get nightmares literally.
The dems will go for impeachment, higher taxes, cut and run and no immigration laws. They may not get them but its certainly much more likely to happen.
A vote against the republicans either for a dem or in default by not voting period is a vote against anything happening good for the conservative movement.
Maybe I'm different because I'm not 100 percent conservative. Some of my views lean a bit liberal (the biggest is while I'm anti gay marriage I am pro civil unions. By the way many gays agree with me on that including my gay republican cousin). But I'd rather vote for a rep willing to make some compromises than any democrat.
We're never going to get eveyrthing we want. But we're going to get what we have taken away and definitely not anything more with a democrat congress.
And believe me I will need a barf bag and nose clips to vote for Judy Barr Topinka in November. I think I should have an ambulance at the ready in case.
This is the first governor or presidential race I haven't put time into since I was 8 years old. I even go back to before I was able to vote to Ford in 1976 helping stuff envelopes at 8 years old.
Heck I've even voted for a democrat or too WHEN HE WAS THE BETTER CANDIDATE! Not to send a message but because he was the better candidate.
And for those who think I'm a DU in disguise. Read my post history.
Or why the heck do you think I'm ashamed to be from Park Ridge? Dave Butts the Washington Redskins star? No her name rhymes with Sillary Flinton.
by staying home, you let economics trump life. your choice.
i can not sit by and see people derided for voting for anyone with an R next to their name when it means the difference on this particular issue. Clintoon may not have signed the prescription bill and incur that debt, but he did veto partial birth abortion. i would not address this to someone that i didn't know was prolife.
of course i meant vetoed the BAN on partial birth abortion.
Great article. Thanks.
So we put in Bush and he gave us HillaryCare anyway with the drug plan. He's just doing it in pieces to make socialized medicine more palatable.
Tell me again why voting republican will set me free.
That's an incumbent talking point. When they are no longer doing the job that they are obligated by oath to do, throw them out any time you have a chance to do it.
So are you saying that the world will end?
Talk about bloviating.
Good grief.
Expand them how? It's still legal to kill babies. How is going to be worse?
Even Rick Santorum who everybody considers Mr Pro Life favors the rape and incest loophole that is big enough to drive an abortion mill through.
"My main point is a RINO is better than a dem any day. "
By what measure? You have no idea if someone with no core principles is going to support conservative principles, in fact, there is every reason to believe they will not.
A RINO, a compassionate conservative, a big government republican is every bit as destructive to conservative ideals as a democrat. Do you really think you can count on a RINO for anything? if so, why?
There is nothing more important than reining in the size, scope of government as measured in spending. As it stands now, republicans have not given conservatives a reason to vote for them. That is not anyone's fault but republicans.
Don't blame conservatives if republicans lose the house, blame the out-of-control spending and growth of government that now makes republicans and democrats virtually indistinguishable on these issues.
ibtz?
He didn't give us Hillary Care. Hillary WILL be running on full scale socialized medicine.
Only the libs would suggest throwing out the Republicans in the main election. The ONLY time to try that is in the primary.
You don't understand, do you?
She tried doing it full scale. It didn't work.
Bush comes in and puts in a huge chunk of the plan.
If she tries the whole thing again, it will be rejected again. With a pubbie in again, we'll (well, not me, but many in the GOP) just roll over again for another big piece.
Any questions?
That's your strategy and it's a failed one for us because it is designed to protect the incumbent.
It's time to make them vulnerable more than in just the primary. Reelecting them will not bring them further right.
*LOL* I'm saying the opposite. Let the unappeasers whine, sit the election out, or run their own kooky candidate. It won't matter.
Voting for McCain is wimping out: it means that you will kneel before anyone who runs as a Republican, no matter how much damage to the conservative movement the particular candidate does.
First, use of that phrase frames the debate in a deleteriously liberal way.
Second, McCain would appoint pro-abortion Supreme Court Justices.
McCain hates social conservatives.
Unreservedly.
Having read this stuff from two years ago, I have one comment: That went well, didn’t it?
i find it curious that you have, at this juncture, resurrected a thread from 2006, out of the clear blue sky.
During the primaries, voting for McCain at this point signifies one of two things (1) an attempt to prevent the only other viable remaining challenger -- Huckabee -- from getting the GOP nomination, (2) an acceptance that McCain is the most palatable of the remaining RINOs in the race, (3) a belief that McCain is the most "electable" of the choices, or (4) support of the "maverick" republican candidate. Since none of those was sufficient reason for me to vote for McCain, I cast my ballot early for Fred Thompson despite his premature withdrawal from the race.
In November, when it is McCain v Obama or McCain v hillary, voting for McCain means you care enough about the country to do whatever it takes to avoid seeing a president hillary or a president Obama -- even voting for McCain. After November we can start working on resurrecting the conservative movement.
btw, how did you even find this ancient thread? What was your previous screen name here?
