Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.
Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:
A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.
FAA now reporting 50 deaths.
FWIW, the Doppler radar over at WLEX looked pretty nasty, lots of reds and yellows, though I don't know how much, if any, of that was over the airport at the time of the crash.
Ugh. I was on a Canadair jet at that very airport back in the early 90's when the nose wheel gear failed as we rolled for takeoff headed for Montreal. We were lucky. Bless all souls on board this one.
FAA reporting where?
MSNBC covering also.
On CNN
That's unnecessary, a-hole.
Not cool.
Get out of here.
Convair 580 or BAC-111 would hold that many...if they still fly...
Thanks
Wild speculation: where was it a week or two ago that a woman with suspicious items caused a regional airport shutdown?
Plane Crashes In Lexington
Just after the six o'clock hour, Sunday morning...the Bluegrass Airport has confirmed a commercial airplane has crashed near the airport.
Emergency crews are on the scene trying to figure out what caused the incident.
Officials at this time cannot confirm or deny injuries or deaths have been reported.
A joint statement between the Lexington Fire Department, Lexington Police Department and the Bluegrass Airport Police Department is scheduled to take place within the next few minutes.
Is the 111 still flying? 580 is prop, right?
Bet you're speaking for many, wondering that...
Scoop, BigBlueJon!
Meanwhile MSM searches through its templates...searching, searching...terrorism...pilot fault...searching...pilot error...Bush! All Bush all the time.
both very old, too...
The real joke is cnbc is still doing paid programing!
And alas... these carriers DAL/COMAIR -- operating in a bankruptcy environment.....
Too many cost-cuts can be quite expensive (and sad...)
Primary bankrupt air carrier symptoms:
(1)Too much maintenance with a pencil instead of a wrench...
(2) Cut to the bone any extra aircrew training cycles...
"If the minimum wasn't good enough... it wouldn't be the minimum...etc.."....mentality...
Very sad indeed...
