Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.

Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:

A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.

FWIW, the Doppler radar over at WLEX looked pretty nasty, lots of reds and yellows, though I don't know how much, if any, of that was over the airport at the time of the crash.

a Canadair Regional Jet

Ugh. I was on a Canadair jet at that very airport back in the early 90's when the nose wheel gear failed as we rolled for takeoff headed for Montreal. We were lucky. Bless all souls on board this one.

Convair 580 or BAC-111 would hold that many...if they still fly...

Thanks

Wild speculation: where was it a week or two ago that a woman with suspicious items caused a regional airport shutdown?

Is the 111 still flying? 580 is prop, right?

Gravity....concur...
Gravity is especially unforgiving if the aircraft is not correctly configured for takeoff near max weights....
(Recall NWA DC-9 out of DTW a few years back.... inadvertently took-off with flaps/slats retracted with very fatal results)

And alas... these carriers DAL/COMAIR -- operating in a bankruptcy environment.....

Too many cost-cuts can be quite expensive (and sad...)

Primary bankrupt air carrier symptoms:
(1)Too much maintenance with a pencil instead of a wrench...
(2) Cut to the bone any extra aircrew training cycles...

"If the minimum wasn't good enough... it wouldn't be the minimum...etc.."....mentality...

Very sad indeed...
