The president spoke with UN SG Kofi Annan about the international force being assembled for Lebanon; the Iranian regime's statement on its nuclear program; and the need to improve the situation in Darfur. He attended a fundraiser for Senator George Allen, R-VA.

President Bush met with Rockey Vaccarella, Louisiana victim of Hurricane Katrina, to discuss rebuilding efforts there.

I couldn't get on FR earlier in the day; haven't had any difficulties tonight, though.

I call it toasted cheese too.

In fact our oldest daughter, at about two, called it "choasted cheese". :)

We just butter the outsides of the bread and put it on a flat frying pan... My Mom used to use a waffle iron for it, but that was too much trouble for me. I just flatten them out with a spatula.

Oh..........and I only buy the all beef franks, because you never know what pieces parts are in the other ones. I read The Jungle at an impressionble age. :)

Ooh that's a good idea. I could get stuff that I can actually keep in my room without refrigeration. I just don't want to have to leave it where everyone in the building can get to it. I have to get something that will actually fit in my purse though so I can take it with me.

I think grilled cheese would mean put under a broiler (grill). When I say toasted cheese sandwiches, I actually mean that I fry them in butter (lacking a sandwich griller and hating to use the broiler in the oven).

Is your sandwich grill what I call a sandwich toaster? Mine only takes sliced bread though not a roll.

I know, I know. But it has been four weeks. I would follow his instructions, though, even if he says I need to take the crutches with me. I just wouldn't be very happy about it :P

My theory on how hot dogs got so popular:

Americans love picnics.
Picnics attract children like they attract ants (great quantities).
Adults pay for the event.
Hot dogs are cheap, plentiful, easy to cook, and quick cooking.
Sausage is not as cheap, has more spices than a kid's mouth is used to.
Hence, hot dogs took over American summers.

Hmmm...there are SO many ways to boil eggs, aren't there? I buy the super big ones so I put them in warm water and as soon as the water starts to boil I set the timer for 20 minutes. Like yours, there is no green around the yolks and they are never rubbery. And, like you, I plunge them into very cold water, but only for a minute or two because that separates the shell from the egg and they peel so much easier.

I LOVE egg salad sandwiches.

If we have a decent replacement for George W. Bush, it's quite possible the Dose will continue, with a slight change of title (A Day in the Life of President 44, that sort of thing).

Helman's is too rich for me I prefer the cheaper and tarter salad cream but I do not think you can get that in the States.

Excuse me for hopping in. But grilled cheese is one thing I am a purist about. It is not what you call toasted cheese.
There are two ways to make it. One is to use a sandwich grill (looks like a waffle iron, but without the grids). You butter the outside of two slices of bread (not toast), put the cheese in the middle, and put the sandwich in the grill so that it compresses the bread. Grill until brown on the outside and the cheese is melted.
The second way is to put the sandwich in a frying pan (you might add some extra butter to the pan) and fry it. You use a spatula to compress it, and flip it at least once. Fry until golden and the cheese is melted.

Prying the sandwich apart and squirting some relish into it is a nice addition. :-)

I need Sanity Island to remind me of the greatness of President Bush. The media news would rob us of that.

I have been reviewing my 9/11 scrapbook and the magazines published at that time and also a year and two years later that illustrate the progress made. It's good to note the respect and admiration of the world for President Bush at that time and it's sad that the extreme lefties and their co-dependants in the media have been chipping away at that stature out of hate and jealousy.

You'll be in D.C. Get a briefcase. That's what all the big shots do with their lunches. LOL

Mine were very good -- food that I haven't eaten in ages always seems to taste a hundred times better than something I've eaten recently. I added sliced black olives to the egg mix. Other times I like to add a product I can't recall the name of! It's a miniscule, round, green food grown mainly in the Mediterranean, usually pickled, and often used in seafood dishes. Argh! The smaller it is, the more flavorful. Anyone help me out with this?
