Is your sandwich grill what I call a sandwich toaster? Mine only takes sliced bread though not a roll.
I don't think they are the same. The sandwich grill looks like a waffle iron. It has a hinged lid so that you can put some very fat things in it. It grills more than just sandwiches, but I can't remember what all. The lid will flatten out so that you have two grilling surfaces, but that's not what you do with sandwiches.
I have a toaster that will heat sandwiches and other things, but it's for dry foods - you can't really butter up the bread. It's got grates, not solid surfaces.
