What are scalloped potatoes is it some form of mash like duchess potatoes?

They can be made in different ways, but the way I make them is to thinly slice raw potatoes and put a layer in a casserole dish, then I sprinkle flour, salt and pepper, butter and onions on top, and continue adding layers until the casserole is filled.

After that, I add milk (about half way up), and usually put salted and peppered pork chops on top, and bake about an hour or more, depending on how many you make (with my family, it took MUCH longer!)

VERY tasty!
