NICOLE Kidman has made a public stand against terrorism.
The actress, joined by 84 other high-profile Hollywood stars, directors, studio bosses and media moguls, has taken out a powerfully-worded full page advertisement in today's Los Angeles Times newspaper.
It specifically targets "terrorist organisations" such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.
"We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated by terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas," the ad reads.
"If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die.
"We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."
A who's who of Hollywood heavyweights joined Kidman on the ad.
The actors listed included: Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Danny De Vito, Don Johnson, James Woods, Kelly Preston, Patricia Heaton and William Hurt.
Directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Dick Donner and Sam Raimi also signed their names.
Other Hollywood powerplayers supporting the ad included Sumner Redstone, the chairman and majority owner of Paramount Pictures, and billionaire mogul, Haim Saban.
Don't have to be when they are signing a document passed around by major DNC contributors. They are being useful idiots and helping the DNC cause in the fall.
I would like to know what instigated this and what's in it for these hollywood types. I don't trust them when they start lining up in support of truth, justice, and the American way as defined by regular Americans.
Did you ask that when James Woods castigated Bill Clinton for being a perjuring scumbag? Did you ask that when Heaton spoke out on behalf of the pro-life cause? Did you ask that every time Willis went out to entertain the troops?
So...did you?
At some point, at least part of the dam had to break.
And when it doesn't?
And, [addressing all posters purveying derision of this effort] at what point will you get off it and simply admit "That's good"?
For that matter, when's the last time you took out a full-page ad in your local rag to go on public record with your opinion?
Holicheese thinks something's wrong with this; I'll tell you exactly what's wrong with this: a few people we've disagreed with in the past have finally "got it" on a significant aspect of global terrorism, have spent their onw time and money to try to bring their celebrity influence to bear on the public mind by making this public statement about it, and, for this decent effort, some here at FR can bring themselves to nothing better than disparaging retorts.
Yeah, okay, so maybe we're not going to be ecstatic with where their campaign contributions are going in the fall and in '08, but isn't it just a teeny-weeny bit small-minded to withhold what credit IS due, taking this effort at face-value? That's every bit as petty as the stock-in-trade we find over at DU. Do we honestly want to spew that kind of dreck here at FR?
Somehow I don't think so, but it's going to take everyone's individual effort not to descend to that level. I hope we all believe that the quality of these forums is worth that.
Already did a cut & paste job on an e-mail along with its URL to my computer so I could look it up later.
This is a good thing.
People are starting to wake up.
Right now it's 84, soon it will be 184.
I can see Patricia Heaton signing this as well. Pro-lifer.
You da man!
Some of the names have stated before that they were conservative/support the WOT, etc. Some I am surprised to see - M. Douglas, for one.
Ridley Scott has totally erased any goodwill he earned with "Gladiator" and "Black Hawk Down".
Making Saladin into some "noble statesman of yore" instead of the Butcher of Jerusalem is beyond the pale.
The Muslim Crusaders waged war on the West for 465 years before Pope Urban the 2nd preached for the first Crusade in 1095 AD
Hey, Lefties! The Crusades were Defensive!
I think some one needs a nap.
Most of your comments so far have been a breath away from getting you suspended, IMO. You want to know who some of the most powerful men in Hollywood are? How about those Miramax guys, the Weinsteins? Ever hear of the Cohen brothers? Nobody on the list surprises me much, and I am surprised even less by those not listed--the self-loathing uberliberal Jews, a special breed of person found only in this country. Criminey! Do you also believe that all the Irish are drunks, Sicilians are mafiosi, and the French are robust lovers? You are living in a cartoon, my friend.
Good posts both of you...
Cynicism is unattractive on anyone.
So, as opposed the the Hollywood Black list in the
50's, this is like the Hollywood Red, White & Blue
list. Now we need to do our part and support their
movies.
Nah, I'm just tired of people looking at some good that's been done and trying to poke holes in it just because it was libs that did it.
Yeah, they're still politically off-key, but let's at least be big enough to give them credit when they DO hit the right notes for a few bars.
That's all I'm saying.
Phssthpok was a Pak Protector.
Nessus was the Puppeteer.

Give me a break! Neither do I!! Take a look at my post below... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1684987/posts?page=198#198
The fact you've seen prejudice in this means you're predisposed to it unnecessarily or you've had too many drinks and shouldn't be online.
My family has been blessed by our Jewish relationships, and will always be grateful for their friendship. You, however, seem to use the idea of bigotry to taint others. There's nothing more despicable.
True, but I'd like to see them put their time and money where their mouth is. I have so much more respect for the "regular" people who send packages and cards to the troops than the ones who just speak out or against. Actions speak louder than words.
Actually, Kelly Preston is more of a shock to me. She's a scientologist like Cruise.
Nicole Kidman has class. Divorcing her is about the dumbest thing Tom Cruise ever did.
