"If we had math books from 1988, reading books from 1988, as a parent, I would be furious," said Patty Rafailedes, a physical education teacher.

Patty, dear, math and reading have not changed since 1988, nor, to my knowledge, has how women become pregnant changed. Perhaps the problem is not with the books but elsewhere.

Has math, reading, or sex changed much in the past 20 years?

Personally, I'd be thrilled if schools around the country used textbooks from 1950.

Sounds to me like the teens were doing their "homework" for the class. What's to change?

Jack,

But these were written before revisionist history, outcome based education, and "enlightened" books were in full swing in the 90s. I mean, in these books on say, social science, they don't even mention the stories like "Johnny has two daddies". And the math books actually state "2+2=4"!!! *Gasp* How can the left fill young heads with hate and indoctrinated socialism with logical statements floating around???!!!?

Though it seem to me, the usually permissive leftist views on teen pregnancy are getting the predicted "outcomes".

Wow, I did not know English and Math has changed since 1988.

These cretins don't need sex education...they need to be taught responsibility.

Don't need lessons for breeding. Its the rearing and nurturing that really makes a program shine.

But these books are just filled with a bunch of words. There are no pretty photos, graphics, and inserts relating the material to minorities, women, and liberal bias. Surely, you not want these things to fall in the hands of our dear children!!

I agree with you in the area of the information, but if the books are that old they have to be in shambles.

She may have a point in that area, but it sounds to me like she and the media are attempting to take the focus off of the problem and place blame on the tax payers.

We live in a godless society, so it's no surprise that so many young girls get pregnant these days.

In my opinion, kids have too much free time, and parents don't supervise them like they used to.

I've always wondered why they don't teach girls about their cycle, and the timing of sex and ovulation. Six days out of the month when a woman is fertile... at least wear a damn condom if you can't wait! Sheesh.

I'm willing to bet that the new program will have no beneficial effect on the number of pregnancies. But it will reduce the number of babies allowed to live.

Modern liberal society thinks of its self as so advanced when in fact we've degraded our selves to a herd of animals to be culled.

Yep, just throw some more money at the problem.
Our society has undergone a massive tectonic shift over the last 25 years. There was a time, when a girl fiercely guarded her "reputation" and considered it a great insult if a boy thought he could take liberties with her sexual favors. Being a virgin upon a marriage was the norm for a young woman. Today, girls are being told that they are "free" to experience their sexuality and that dressing like a slut is sign of their power.

There needs to be a massive society-wide refocus upon what it really means to be a woman. Until more girls learn how important it is to control themselves, to elevate themselves so that they inspire the level of respect from young men that a woman deserves, the numbers of unwed mothers will not come down and the misery that one sees among the women of Gen X, Y, Z, and whatever other strata follow will increase.

Blame, blame, blame.

Blame everything and everybody except the persons responsible.

Their babies will be born for free and then they'll get their own apartment, free food and a stipend every month.

And they really think it's old textbooks that cause pregnancies. Sure.

The Rev. David Morgan served on a committee that developed the lesson plans. He said the new curriculum moves beyond the "Just Say No" approach.

Pastor, it strikes me that that was the one thing they weren't learning in the first place.
