A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

The weekend political shows have just lost their desire IMO to talk about the anti-war vote in light of this attempt at a major terrorist attack.
This just ruined the Main Stream News month at least.
Thank God the people who counted did their jobs and don't take the press seriously anymore.

Passengers on those flights will be subject to the conditions I described above. No one will be allowed to get out of their seat, the seatbelt lights will remain on, and anyone attempting to break those rules will deal with the FBI upon landing.

It would require time and effort, but people could mail a set of their medicine ahead to their final destination.
Which possibly violates various national laws about shipping prescription drugs, and isn't practicable - do you postpone your trip because you don't know whether the package made it?
The policy doesn't make sense and will be revised. It isn't difficult for smart folks to claim that they need more prescription medicine on the flight than they really do, anyway.

But, rain metal on what. Virtually all of a flight is not over any densely populated area. You know, that's why they call it fly over country? And flight schedules are notorious for being late by wildly varying amounts of time (never heard of one being early yet).

Just what I was thinking, along with some other good reads on the ways and wants of the average islomaniac jihadist. Most folks don't have a clue. Let them use the 2 hours to educate themselves on why they can't bring their computers, game boys and cell phones on flights any longer.
OR show the movie Flight 42, now that would be interesting.

"Postal regulations forbid mailing medicine except to the patient. When Vioxx was recalled, Merck found this out the hard way."
This would be to the particular patient at such and such an address. Or if need be a law can be changed for the greater good.
