Three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman trailed in early returns Tuesday, struggling to overcome a tough primary challenge and escape payback from his own party for supporting the Iraq war.
Six years after Democrats backed him for vice president, Lieberman was trailing with 44 percent, or 25,596 votes, to political novice Ned Lamont's 56 percent, or 32,840 votes, with 19 percent of precincts reporting.

I'm not sure exactly how many voters they expected and how that compares to normal circumstances.
McKinney could be down 5000 votes with 99.99999% of the vote in and she's not about to conceed in GA in primetime.
She'll have a carefully worded statement early tomorrow morning if she goes down with plenty of blame for everyone except herself.

Less than 10% of the population voted in the dem primary. I dont see this as a mandate or statement.
Serves him right. Mr. Conscience of the Senate, the media ran to him to protect their guy Bill from impeachment, and then ran him for veep, but then they tossed him out like a fat ugly whore in the morning. (please pardon the analogy)
As soon as Senator Lieberman declares that he is running as a Lieberman-Democrat or Independent, the Democrats lose 1 Senator in Congress.
There will be only 43 sitting Democratic Party Senators, plus independents Jeffords and Lieberman.
This is a point that the MSM will attempt to bury, but the Democrats just *lost* a Democratic Party Senator (to a switch to Independent) tonight.

Lamont winning and Lieberman going indy puts three Republican house members at risk because the Dems will have high turnout. Lieberman winning will cause many lefties to stay home in November. They'll be dejected that "Bush's favorite Democrat" won.
Lamont winning will suck a lot of cash from other races. It'll also split the Dems. And local candidates here in CT will have a hard time getting Dem volunteers.
Thanks for that post, Koblenz. I admit I'm having a difficult time knowing which side to "cheer" tonight... These Lamont moonbats make me sick to my stomach. Emotion is trumping logic for me tonight, I guess.
Oh, and I just can't wait for Ned's new hateful campaign commercials this fall... /sarc
Susan Estrich on Fox News now saying "(Lamont) is the face of the new Democrat party... we have to embrace him."
Things could be a lot worse for the Dems than not holding the WH, Senate, House, and (arguably) the Supreme Court. There could be a substantial enough Republican majority that they can't filibuster judges, tax relief, etc etc.
yeh- but how many are registered rats??
It's hard to imagine that Lieberman will pull it out with over 90% of the precincts counted. Although it looks as if he could poll 49%.
"(Lamont) is the face of the new Democrat party"
THAT is scary.
I think he can, and I think he will, elect to be seated as a democrat.
Glad to, how about you?
The Democrat Party, the Anti-War Party!
We can now sit back and watch the mad rush to condemn the war, and in turn, the military.
The voices...
This is nothing but good news for Republicans. As more Senate and House candidates try and mimic this action, especially in the South, they will find it won't work in the general election.
Remember, liberals and fraudulent voters don't show up for off-term elections like they do during Presidential years.
My point is percentage of total pop. It looks even worse if the dems have a higher regsitration and less came out to vote.
Senator Lieberman only had to run "close" in the Primary. He'll coast to an easy victory in the General election because the GOP isn't running anyone, so Joe will get their votes by running as an Independent.
But running as an Independent means that he is no longer a Dem...so from now through the November election the Dems are -1 Senator (to a switch to Independent).
John Fund saying that Chris Dodd has been 'deputized' by the DNC to twist Lieberman's arm to get him to back away from a run as an Independent. Also that Lieberman is planning on revamping his campaign staff, which has not gotten very good marks for his recent effort against Lamont.
