Three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman trailed in early returns Tuesday, struggling to overcome a tough primary challenge and escape payback from his own party for supporting the Iraq war.

Six years after Democrats backed him for vice president, Lieberman was trailing with 44 percent, or 25,596 votes, to political novice Ned Lamont's 56 percent, or 32,840 votes, with 19 percent of precincts reporting.

By Senator Lautenberg's criteria, that's a landslide.

The Moonbat left looks more likely than not to be the winner tonight.

Good to see Mr. Clinton hasn't lost his magic touch (/sarc)

Let's hope he campaigns for his bride.

The key question is, if Lamont wins, what will Alan Schlesinger do? If he drops out, the GOP can win this race.

"19 percent of precincts reporting"

then it's useless. in kentucky Bunning was behind a fair bit but the precints that report last are more conservative and in the country.

i really don't care, either way the dems cutting his throat is a big BLOODY win for us.

could you think of a better way to destroy the democratic party from within?

Does the conventional wisdom say that this is GOOD for our side, because it indicates that the mega-scum left is gaining power, which will turn off any sane, rational voter? I THINK that's what I keep hearing.

I heard on the radio today that if Lieberman loses, he would join four other (maybe he would be the fourth) U.S. Senators top lose in a primary since 1980. Anyone know the others?

The interesting thing to note is that the DUmmies will be celebrating if this trend holds... But so will many on FR, myself included, because it will represent impending doom for the Democrats on so many levels.

It won't be good for the GOP this year unless they have a viable candidate. As of this time, they don't.

Me too but I think it's a stretch. The LSM will be running with the this spells disaster for any Republican as even a demo who supports Bush loses. They will run this line non-stop until November and the sheeple will believe it and say yeah, we hate Bush too.

They are Bob Smith (R-NH) in 2002, interim Shelia Frahm (R-KS) in 1996, Alan Dixon (D-IL) in 1992, and if there's a fourth, I can't remember.

As long as Joe runs in the election, this is a win-win for the GOP in CT!!

With the vote split like this, the GOP faithful only have to pull the lever!

Since you're from Connecticut, do you have any idea whether or not Alan Schlesinger can be persuaded to drop out of the race?

It would only be good in the short term. If Lamont win it proves Soros and his minions can win anything. It's only a matter of time before GOP Soros candidates win.
