Three-term Sen. Joe Lieberman trailed in early returns Tuesday, struggling to overcome a tough primary challenge and escape payback from his own party for supporting the Iraq war.

Six years after Democrats backed him for vice president, Lieberman was trailing with 44 percent, or 25,596 votes, to political novice Ned Lamont's 56 percent, or 32,840 votes, with 19 percent of precincts reporting.

McKinney is going down

I don't care about that, I just hope she loses the election.

The WSJ had an editorial that said if Lamont wins this primary, the Democrats will lose the future. They are predicting another McGovern type race in '08.

Connecticut ping!

Fox News reporting... 38% of the precincts in now...

Lamont 54%
Lieberman 46%

Idiot moonbats celebrating wildly behind Alan Colmes, reporting from Ned Lamont's HQ.

Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.

They are Bob Smith (R-NH) in 2002,

Didn't he run as an independent?

I haven't see it, and the Secretary of State's website is slow on reporting the returns. I'll have a better idea in an hour.

Plus, if Loserman runs as an independent, the wackos will go to the polls in the fall to support Lamont and this will hurt the down-ticket Pubbies. (Which many of the jihadis on this site don't like, but they're still essential to keeping our hold on the House). If Loserman wins or does not run in the fall, the Daily Kos-nicks might well stay at home (in CT, anyway).

No he didn't, he lost the Republican primary to John Sununu by a 55% to 45% margin.

holy joe had integrity, prior to 2000, when he sold his soul for the chance for the VP slot with albore. He is one of the few demonRATS to support the war on the terrorists but I don't mind watching him get his butt kicked. The demonRATS are doomed. It is the end, and it's Bush's fault. hahahahahahaha

Since you're from Connecticut, do you have any idea whether or not Alan Schlesinger can be persuaded to drop out of the race?

I have no idea, but I hope so. He's not a viable candidate from everything I've read. In any event, I really don't want to end up with Senator Lamont here in CT. I'll take Joe over far-far left Ned any day...

It gets worse than not holding the WH, Senate or House? How would you define doom?

if Lamont wins, what will Alan Schlesinger do? If he drops out, the GOP can win this race.

I don't know CT politics - Schlesinger is a GOP candidate - how will his dropping out help the GOP?

I might feel that way if I wasn't from Connecticut... I don't know.

Our spin should be: Despite record Far Left turnout, shocking 45% of Democrats from Liberal State support pro war candidate for Senate.

so...44% at 19% returned. 46% at 38% returned.

If this were linear, it'd mean that by 76% return it'd appear as a dead-heat, and Lieberman winning with 52.5% at 100% of returns. Hehe. :)

Schlesinger is a gambling addict who was badly embarrassed when it was discovered that he was sued for unpaid debts by two Atlantic City casinos. Also, he gambled under an alias and wa thrown out of at least one casino for counting cards.

The GOP needs an untainted candidate to have any shot at winning.

This also means the end of politics for Evan Bayh ~ as left as he really is he will not be their choice.

Bye, bye Evan!
