Incumbent Republican Senator John Ensign (R) is facing an increasingly competitive race in his bid for re-election to a second term in the U.S. Senate. A recent Rasmussen Reports election survey of 500 likely voters shows Ensigns lead in the single-digits46% to 39%over Democrat Jack Carter (see crosstabs ).
Though theyre already seen as their respective parties official candidates, both candidates must first face minor contests in Nevadas August 15th primary. Ensign is being challenged for the GOP nod by Ed Fast Eddie Hamilton of Las Vegas and Carter will square off against middle school science teacher Ruby Jee Tun of Carson City. Neither challenger is expected to mount a serious race and Ensign and Carter are already turning their sights to November.
Primary day looks to have a greater impact in Nevadas governors race. In the wide-open contest to replace outgoing Governor Kenny Guinn (R), state Senator Dina Titus and Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson are slugging it out to represent the Democrats on Novembers ballot. Five-term Republican Congressman Jim Gibbons faces a minor challenge from state Senator Bob Beers.
Gibbons is the preferred candidate when pitted in head-to-head match-ups with both Titus and Gibson. In a Gibbons-Titus contest, voters prefer Gibbons 46% to 37%. He also tops Gibson, though by a smaller margin, 42% to 39%.
According to the surveys respondents, immigration (21%), the economy (20%) and national security (20%) are the most pressing issues for Nevadas voters.
Governor Kenny Guinn is closing out his tenure in a positive light with his constituents. Two-thirds of those surveyed (66%) give the outgoing governor their approval for his job performance.
I wonder if we will see a similar headline "Santorum catching Casey in Senate Race?" since Casey's lead is now down to 6. I'll just sit here and hold my breath.
Forget the POLLS.
I wouldn't count Bob out just yet.
Oh please, Jimmy Carter's idiot son? I doubt he has a shot. This is a notoriously bad time to poll. More affluent voters are on vacations so you get skewed results.
A good indicator that this poll is tilted towards democrats. Guinn is about as RINO as they come. I know of no repubs or conservatives that like him.
If we have to worry about NV too then this whole election is going to be a big disaster. Fortunatly polls are often wrong, and they have been swinging back and forth a lot in this election cycle. I think in the end Ensign will win. Same with Dewine and Talent.
I saw one just last week.
Casey leads Sen. Santorum in Pa. poll (Now only a 6 point lead)

This is a notoriously bad time to poll.
**
Perhaps the reason for the pollsters' choice of times.
I predict Ensign will mop the floor with Carter in November. When you add in the usual 2-3 points of polling bias in favor of Dems, then Ensign still has about a 9 point lead.
Rasmussen is actually one of the better pollsters. But even still, they've got a lot of subscribers they can't just tell "Don't expect us to give you polls in August." People will demand their money back. So they'll poll during this weird season where so many people are either travelling or not paying a dime's worth of attention to politics to keep their subscribers happy. Plus a little added drama helps to keep subscribers interested for the next month's batches of polls. I don't think Rasmussen is out to pull anything here. They just have to have something to provide their paid subscribers.
Wishful RAT thinking, to be followed after the elections by the usual cries of "they cheated!"
Not really. 500LV is a reasonable sample. It might be a little bit low, but I've seen many polls with 400LV or less.
Give me a break...Carter is a FOOL! He doesn't have a chance.
Carter's son was kicked out of the Navy for Drugs. You think a Dishonorable discharge candidate is going to beat strong John Ensign? This is why liberal Summer Polling by Charlie Cook and Sabato is a joke. Rasmussen must have bumped his head on stairwell.
PULEEEEEEEEZE stop it and go away.
Sorry, I don't care if this guy predicted the minute of the Titanic hitting the iceberg, I do not for one second believe these polls. Someone will be in for a very big surprise on election day, and it won't be me.
Governor Kenny Guinn is closing out his tenure in a positive light with his constituents.
