Ark. governor: Day will come when cigarettes no longer sold

Excerpt -

LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Mike Huckabee, who successfully pushed for a statewide workplace smoking ban earlier this year, predicted Wednesday that cigarettes eventually won't be sold because of their health risks.

"I think the day will come when we probably won't" sell cigarettes, Huckabee said on his monthly call-in radio show. "If cigarettes were introduced to the marketplace today, they wouldn't be sold. They'd never make it because what we didn't know when they were first created, sold and marketed is just how deadly harmful they were."

Huckabee was responding to a caller's question of why cigarettes are allowed to be sold if they are so harmful. The governor fielded complaints from at least two callers about the state smoking ban, which went into effect July 21.

I have never been able to identify a smoker by his driving.

Daily, I can correctly identify 9 out of 10 drivers as active cell phone users by their erratic dangerous driving.

I may not be as smart as you, but that tells me that there's a profound fundamental difference between the two activities, insofar as it affects safety on the highways.

What about the smoker who snuffs out his cigarette at the bar (no drinking)?

What about the pot smoker who snuffs out his cigarettes at the "chill" bar (no drinking)?

Who is more impaired?

#54, that's great. That one will be going on the office wall I think.

Govt will never be defunded, my friend. They'll just shift the burden elsewhere. To kill two birds with one stone, I predict that they will shift the sin tax onto fast/fatty foods and the like. The health nazis won't pay a dime more than now. They will celebrate their victory over tobacco, and press on to the next nanny state cause.

If a restaraunt owner wants to own a smoking only business, then he should be able too - it is that person's business....

If it bothers me, I have the right to not go there.

"cigarettes eventually won't be sold because of their health risks.

And he's right.

Each smoker eventually will be stuffing their own cigarettes at about 1/6 current prices.

Why then, is there not a single "smoking only" restaurant in the United States?
The standard (quite effective) argument used to pass ubiquitous "no smoking anywhere" laws is the direct opposite of your "reasonable" statement.

It was the name of the guy who engineered the holocaust, later captured, tried, and executed by Israel.

Gov. Huckabee, you're coming to Manchester NH in a few weeks. Remember that we just voted down a smoking ban here, while you're the guest of statist RINO's who voted for it.

I predict someday drunks won't be Governors in Arkansas anymore.

The good news about the "Clean Air Act" (which sounds like it came straight out of Brave New World, btw) is that it is one of the many reasons why Huckabee will never be POTUS. See, we Arkansans DO have something to be thankful for!!!

Let's continue spreading the truth about Huckabee, lest any FReepers or conservatives are led astray. :)

Thanks for the ping.

Oddly enough, this is fine with me.

Might as well have the anti-tobacco lobby stop licking around the edges and get the war started.

The exact same thing has been said about gasoline.

And aspirin.
