Turkey has grounded two Syria-bound Iranian planes over the past month to search for weapons following Israeli intelligence that Iran is supplying rockets to Hezbollah, officials and media reports said Thursday.
Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Namik Tan said two Iranian cargo planes were forced to land in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir "in line with international rules" to search for rockets and other military equipment.

Officials: U.S. blocked missiles to Hezbollah
8/18/2006
WASHINGTON The United States blocked an Iranian cargo plane's flight to Syria last month after intelligence analysts concluded it was carrying sophisticated missiles and launchers to resupply Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, two U.S. intelligence officials say. Eight days after Hezbollah's war with Israel began, U.S. diplomats persuaded Turkey and Iraq to deny the plane permission to cross their territory to Damascus, a transfer point for arms to Hezbollah, the officials said.
The episode was detailed by one U.S. intelligence official who saw a report on the incident. It was confirmed by a U.S. official from a second intelligence agency and by a diplomat with a foreign government. They did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the incident.

It is odd.
The Department of Homeland Security took a Muslim group with known past ties to terror organizations on a VIP tour of security operations at the nation's busiest airport at the same time British authorities were working to break up a plot to blow up U.S. airlines. On June 21, a senior DHS official from Washington personally guided Muslim officials from the Council on American-Islamic Relations on a behind-the-scenes tour of Customs screening operations at O'Hare International Airport in response to CAIR complaints that Muslim travelers were being unfairly delayed as they entered the U.S. from abroad.

Has Osama bin Laden been sighted? A report with the Government of India says Al-Qaeda's top leadership was recently spotted near Darkot, a Pakistani village near the border with Afghanistan's Wakhan corridor.
Sources say the report was made less than a fortnight ago.
Till now, Bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri were thought to be in the rugged mountains of Pakistan, along Afghanistan's southeast border.
There is now the possibility that they have shifted to the Wakhan corridor. Sticking out of northeastern Afghanistan, the corridor (a strip of land) is wedged between Tajikistan, Pakistan and the part of PoK known as Northern Areas.

Singapore Tourist Guides To Be Trained In Handling Terror Attacks
17 August
A total 800 tourist guides in Singapore will over the next three months be trained on how to react to chemical and other kinds of terrorist attacks. The one-day course, taught in Chinese and English, is designed to create a 'frontline' force of guides to handle such emergencies. Singapore, perceived as a staunch supporter of United States president George W. Bush's war against terror, sees it itself as a prime terror target. And the authorities consider tourist sites and the tour groups that visit them to be particularly at risk.
In a previous experiment in October 2004, the city-state, adjacent to the Muslim countries of Malaysia and Indonesia, trained 40,000 taxi-drivers as anti-terror monitoring agents. They were given the task of noting any strange behaviour, such as nervous passengers, or people leaving their luggage inside the taxi.
Singapore is within the area eyed by local terror group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) for the creation of a new Islamic caliphate in southeast Asia. Security forces in Singapore foiled planned attacks against United States and Western targets, due to take place in December 2001, January 2002 and April-May 2002, according to the government

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Hizbollah handed out bundles of cash on Friday to people whose homes were wrecked by Israeli bombing, consolidating the Iranian-backed group's support among Lebanon's Shi'ites and embarrassing the Beirut government.
"People already had faith in Hizbollah, this will strengthen their faith," said Ayman Jaber, 27, with a wad of $12,000 (6,378 pounds) in banknotes Hizbollah had given him.
Israeli and U.S. officials have voiced concern that Hizbollah will entrench its popularity by moving fast -- with Iranian money -- to help people whose homes were destroyed or damaged in the 34-day conflict with Israel.
Hizbollah has not said where the funds are coming from to compensate people for an estimated 15,000 destroyed homes. The scheme appears likely to cost at least $150 million. The Lebanese government has yet to launch anything similar.

Iran Suspected of Attempts to Rearm Hezbollah Since Cease-Fire
Thursday, August 17, 2006
WASHINGTON Iran has been attempting to rearm the Lebanon-based terror network Hezbollah since the U.N.-backed cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel took hold earlier this week, two U.S. officials told FOX News on Thursday.
A U.S. arms control official said it appears that Iran is using Syrian channels in its effort to give Hezbollah weapons it has used in the past, including Chinese-built C-802 radar-guided anti-ship missiles. Military observers said a C-802 was used successfully on an Israeli naval vessel off the coast of Tyre on July 14. The arms control officer and a senior American counterterrorism officer both said the U.S. government is "very concerned" about the "ongoing" effort.

Snip: The writer, who appears to be a woman, says: "May the only cause for our separation be the cause of Allah." Mr Pagliaro said the "cause of Allah" had been interpreted to mean "violent jihad".
The letter went on: "And may he (Allah) grant me paradise alongside you as queen of your Hoor." Prosecutors told the court the word "Hoor" was a reference to the 72 virgins a martyr is said to receive upon ascension to paradise.
I had some problems getting on FR and never could on the 15th, I believe it was.
Yep, and both points I picked up on, too as I was reading through the thread.
THANKS for that update Velveeta.
Updates appreciated on this one.

"Texas men to stay jailed in cell-phone case"
Associated Press
BAY CITY, Mich.
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "At today's hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Janet Parker tried to persuade Binder to keep the men locked up without bail. Ayad countered with 34 faxed character references from family members in Texas and documents including Adham Othman's 2003 report card from Mesquite's Poteet High School."
From about 2 AM yesterday, until I gave up a few hours later, I got so many timeout errors I couldn't load pages, reply, or send private replies- finally gave up and went elsewhere.
Probably just a coincidence, but concurrent with that, the usual "3 spam emails a day" we get around here multiplied to a hundred or so in a few hours. Same time period.

Jihad Watch under DOS attack?
We may be experiencing a DOS attack or two. We're certainly experiencing technical difficulties yesterday and today that have at times taken the site down and even when it was up have sometimes made it virtually impossible for me to post.
Hosting Matters, however, denies that any DOS attack has occurred or is occurring, although a commenter did post several hundred comments here in the space of a few minutes last night, obviously intending to take down the site.
We will be dealing with this problem as soon as possible. Meanwhile, thanks for your patience. I apologize for the inconvenience.
