Syria Tells Troops to Be Ready for Battle
(Full Story)

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has placed his military on full alert, citing "regional challenges", and vowed to continue supporting the "Palestinian and Lebanese resistance more than ever".

In a speech to mark the Syrian Army national day, Mr Assad said the volatile situation across the Middle East required "vigilance, preparation and readiness" and ordered all units of the armed forces to be on alert.

The comments were interpreted by Israel as a morale booster to the Syrian armed forces and not a call to battle. Israeli intelligence chiefs have assessed that Syria is not in the mood for an open war and is instead content to resupply Hezbollah guerillas in Lebanon.

I am of the belief that when they strike, it will likely be very apparent. How many times has a scare been followed up with an explosion?

The original early reports did say that the disturbance on board involved three people. Wouldn't you love to see that passenger list? I see you posted yet another airline story.

I agree with you, when 'it' happens, there won't be a note - it will just happen.

These types of incidents sure do cause plenty of disruption and monetary costs associated with it.

Man Delivers White Powder To North Bay Firefighter

NOVATO, Calif. -- A North Bay firefighter is back on duty after an unusual attack late Thursday night that turned into a hazmat situation.

A man knocked on the door of the fire station near the corner of San Ramon Way and San Marin Drive in Novato at about 11:30 p.m.

A firefighter answered and saw a man wearing goggles and surgical gloves and holding a gallon-sized bag with a white powdery, crystal-like substance inside. The man tried to hand the firefighter the bag but the firefighter refused. The man turned and ran to a car where a second person and they drove away. (snip)

Another sniper-style shooting in NW Indiana probed (11th sniper shooting)

Authorities were investigating a new report of a sniper-style shooting in northwest Indiana this afternoon, the Lake County sheriff's department said.

The shooting along Cline Avenue in East Chicago could be part of a string of suspected sniper incidents that have taken place in that area in recent weeks.

Since July 25, the windows or windshields of 10 vehicles have been damaged on or near Cline Avenue, but no bullets or shell casings have been recovered. No one has been injured.

Further details of today's incident were not immediately available. (snip)

Badges And Bulletproof Vests Stolen In West Jordan

Robbers who broke into a West Jordan home overnight got away with some valuable police gear.

Officers say the thieves stole about 80 police badges, four bulletproof vests and some laptop computers from the home. The homeowner is a supplier of law enforcement equipment to several agencies throughout Utah.

Police fear whoever took the items might try to commit crimes impersonating a police officer.(snip)

Weird BOLO just came over the police scanner here in Central PA - "BOLO for 4 Ambulances with California tags travelling at a high rate of speed"!!!

That's one to give a bit of concern.
