A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

On July 9th 1932 a remarkable man was born, our 21st Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. Happy Birthday Secretary Donald Rumsfeld!
I attempted a biography thread. The thread would be very long. What an incredible life Rummy has lead. Here are some highlights of his life.
* 1932 Donald Henry Rumsfeld born in Chicago, Illinois * 1954 Graduates from Princeton, joins the Navy * 1957 Early years in Washington -- in private sector * 1962 Runs for Congress (thought to have the odd stacked against him, Donald Rumsfeld wins in a landslide) * Such no-nonsense bluntness is also popular in his conservative Midwestern district, and Rumsfeld is re-elected to Congress in 1964, 1966 and 1968. * 1968 Rumsfeld for a position in a new Republican administration by volunteering for Richard M. Nixon's presidential campaign. * 1969 Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity * 1971 White House Adviser * 1972 Ambassador to NATO * 1974 Chief of Staff to Ford * 1975 - 1977 The youngest Secretary of Defense in history * In 1977, Mr. Rumsfeld was awarded the nation's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. * 1977 Rumsfeld leaves government for private business * 1983 Reagan names Rumsfeld his "Personal Representative to the Middle East * 1985 - 1988 A career in private business * 1990 - 2000 Chairman of the board mid- to late 1990s, Rumsfeld joins several influential government boards and commissions, gradually working his way back into government. * 1995 - 1996 Adviser to the Dole presidential campaign * 1997 The Rumsfeld Commission - In 1997, Congress creates a commission to investigate U.S. intelligence reports concerning ballistic missile threats and names Don Rumsfeld its chairman. * 1999 - 2000 The George W. Bush campaign and "missile defense"While working as a foreign policy adviser to the Bush campaign, Rumsfeld devotes his attention to a single issue: missile defense. * 2001 Secretary of Defense Mr. Rumsfeld has been awarded 11 honorary degrees.

Ahhh, Rummy! He's the only man I know who looks better in his old age than he did when he was young. He has aged gracefully, as they say. He's a year older than I and I should look so good. Ha. Thanks for the birthday thread. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUMMY!

I've got to tell all of you something very funny. I called Mr. LadyX a bit ago and we talked for some time. He told me that Maggie used to say all the time, "We can't afford it", when he wanted to buy something. That was her stock answer about purchases. Well, in preparations for his moving and going through her things, they began to find money stashed everywhere. Lots of money. LOL.
Maggie used to tell me how worried she was about Bernie's being able to manage finances (now you did say I could tell this Bernie). Poor baby, he thought he was left destitute and couldn't afford to move. Well, he can afford to move now. They will be checking under mattresses and in coat pockets for a long time. They will go through every paper in every box. That move is going to take some time. Haha. I love it. Maggie still taking care of her Bear.
Then this morning she had me call him just as he was pulling into his daughter's driveway, dreading that he had to look for an apartment. I hope that he feels a little better about it now. BTW, Morgan answered the phone and I got to say hi to her. Well, LadyX is still in control. But of course, when I hung up I had myself another good cry.

104 here..forecast. I just put fresh water in the bird water / bathing saucer..I notice the cardinals take a soaking bath! The raccoons and squirrels take a drink, too.
I have a very young raccoon giving me close up entertainment in the early morning hours. I am a hopeless night owl.I have positioned the sunflower seeds close to the sliding door by my computer.

Seeing things like his life in chronological order is why I don not dispair for the current bad things in my own. In a matter of a few years, you can go from school to congress, to whatever you desire.
It also reminds me to always treat others as equals. Their time could be much sooner than mine. Except for moonbats...they will always be miserable do nothings.

Maggie is still making me smile.I fear the tears may come on suddenly for a long time to come, Nan..Looks like Maggie made sure they went through her treasures carefully..no dumping all those saved papers! Found money is always a nice surprise! Prayers for Bernie and the family that all goes smoothly with the move.

Great looking presentation for the birthday boy, GeeBee.
8:30 and 83 degrees. Record high 106 yesterday with record electrical consumption as well. Cooling down to a forcast 103 today. The perspiration is rolling off like sweat. :)
