Bush caught out by open microphone

Bush caught out by open microphone

US President George W. Bush has been caught out making candid comments on the Middle East crisis by an open microphone at a summit in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg.

Mr Bush was caught saying that a key to defusing the Middle East crisis was for "Hezbollah to stop doing this s**t". "What they need to do is get Syria to get Hizbollah to stop doing this s**t, and it's over," Bush told British Prime Minister Tony Blair at a leaders' lunch at the Group of Eight industrial countries gathering here.

The president was on camera but apparently unaware that his words were being captured by a microphone.

It was unclear who 'they' were.

"...I can assure you that "profanity" has shared its place amongst our Historical moments"

I have always had very serious doubts that the word "Nuts!" was actually the word uttered at Bastonge when the Germans called for the U.S. surrender.

It seems pretty clear to me Mr. MSM PC policeman. Are you forgetting how to read an entire paragraph for context? They is not a pejorative in this case.

I agree with Newt too... it's not easy. But Bush was really expressing frustration that the leaders give long speeches without even trying to solve the problem. He wasn't buying into the pomp of the G8 meeting.

but it does make him seem coarse.

Coarse?

Coarse is the edge of the blade used to cut off Daniel Pearl's head.

Coarse is the edge of the blade used to slit Nicholas Berg's throat. Personally, I am happy that the man is not a priss.

President Bush is anything but coarse.

Personally, I am happy that the man is not a priss.

"NUTS!" was the official response to the German ultimatum. The unofficial response by General McAullife was probably more colorful.

"... get Hizbollah to stop doing this s**t..."

Bush didn't say anything everyone else over here has not already said. Actually, the President was not nearly as colorful in his expression as most of what I have heard (and said) myself.

This wasn't even close to the time that "super Christian. smartest president ever" Clinton screamed real profanity at the Secret Service agent.

Not much different than arguing with DU trolls.

Not much different than arguing with DU trolls.

Considering that Bush was surrounded by and forced to be diplomatic with so many critics of U.S. and Israeli policies toward terrorists, his off the record comments were remarkably low key and restrained.

The people who seem to think the President made a mistake don't seem to take into account that the mic was supposed to be turned off, and the environment the President is in is considerably more hostile than most FR threads.

In fact, from the President's point of view, it must've been as frustrating as dealing with a room of DUmmies.

That was my first thought. This is so "not-diplo-speak" that it could be a message to Syria and all who have influence on them. Maybe Bush meant Russia, maybe Iran. But it´s irrelevant who´s "they". All who may be addressed think about further support for Syria twice.
