"LGF says CNN reported it:"

Yes, but going to the actual CNN.com website itself shows nothing on the alledged "Iranian missile attack on Israel."

If that's "breaking news," then please tell me why 2 hours later it still isn't on CNN's and FoxNews' web sites...

Game theory mathematics works in certain simplified games where your optimal strategy is to assume your opponent is rational. If the other party isn't rational, your optimal strategy works even better than if the other party is rational.

False, false, completely false. Strategies that work against a rational opponent may fail against an irrational opponent and vice versa. Consider a game with the following payoff matrix:

Player A Cooperate Defect
Player B Cooperate 500,500 -10,-10
Defect -10, -10 -100, -100

This (extremely simple) game has a dominant strategy at (cooperate, cooperate). A rational player will always choose to cooperate; defection never gains him anything. Even if the other player chooses to defect, cooperation is the better move. But if the other player is irrational and chooses to defect, the rational player does worse than he would have done had his opponent also been rational.

The US has presented a weakened appearance to the world with these treasonous intelligence revelations.

They probably think there is an internal revolution going on with us, given what they hear/see on CNN, and in newspapers.

Many regimes probably think now is the time to strike, that they have helpers on the 'inside'.

This part of the Saudi statement released earlier today....found it at Belmont Club

Saudi Arabia indicated on Thursday that Hizbullah bore the responsibility for the current crisis in Lebanon, Israel Radio reported.

In an official statement, the Saudi government said that a distinction must be drawn between "legitimate resistance" and "adventurous, irresponsible acts" committed by groups in Lebanon who don't recognize the government and don't coordinate with other Arab nations.

The statement said that these groups must take responsibility and solve the crisis themselves.

IMHO the world has been turned on its head.

(sigh)

You won't get a "confirmation"...

1. Iran would never openly admit that "yes, our forces fired that missile from Lebanon." That would be an ACT OF WAR and give the Israelis what they need to hit Iran.

2. It's not as if there are reporters with Hezbollah/Iran Rev. Guards reporting on what they do. Any reporter who tried would be killed on the spot.

All you can do is rely on intelligence. Apparently the presence of Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Lebanon has been an open secret for quite a long time, and it's also known where the missile came from (Iran). Either the Iranians told Hezbollah how to operate the missile and watched them flip the switch, or it was the Iranian's finger on the switch instead. It matters little. Either way, Iranians had to be on-site to teach the missile's operation at the very least, if not operate it themselves. Apparently Israeli intelligence thinks the latter is more likely.

It was also a first-time test firing of a long-range missile that was sending a message to Israel that Iran and their proxies can hit downtown Haifa.

This is like when Russian advisors and missiles were in Cuba in the early 1960's - the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Now the IDF has to reach the launch sites and try to piece together who was there.

Guys - calm down - this is not the global firestorm some are pushing it to be. We are not on the brink, and neither is the middle east as long as our occupation force is in Iraq. We are a stabilizing force.

After 08 and significant troop draw-down, then we probably see Arab states jockeying for regional power, with Saudis and Turkey being caught in tension between West and Arab world.

Again, it may well be possible that Israeli intelligence is mistaken, but given their track record, I'm inclined to believe what they have to say over your opinion.

Of course, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and caution is called for in this situation, not to mention patience, and I would think that eventually a link from Fox or CNN will eventually be available.

"There were some analysts who suggested the Hezbollah attack was ordered by Iran, its chief sponsor, after talks Tuesday between Iranian negotiator Ali Larijani and Javier Solona, the foreign policy chief of the European Union, ended in frustration. Larijani insisted that his government needed more time to respond to a June 6 offer of incentives in return for ending its nuclear development program.

Shalom said Iran might “want to show the EU that it could make the region burn with fire and that if it wanted quiet, it had to be less pushy and more moderate on Iran’s nuclear activities. But it is hard to establish proof of that.”

Steinberg discounted any connection, saying the Hezbollah assault had to have been planned well in advance. The attack included a barrage of Katyhusha rockets and mortar shells fired at IDF positions and communities in the north, one of which hit a house in Shtula. Four civilians were reportedly injured. Residents of the Western Galilee were directed to enter shelters and fortified rooms."
