McCain-Bush Ticket Possible in 2008?
NewsMax ^ | 11 July 2006

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has frequently said he won't run for president in 2008, but he's never ruled out being on the ticket as someone's running mate.

And he didn't Monday when asked about teaming up with Arizona Sen. John McCain as Republicans hope to come up with a ticket to keep the White House - now occupied by Bush's older brother, President George W. Bush.

"I like Sen. McCain. I think he's a good guy," Bush told reporters after returning from a holiday in Maine with his family.

Any potential GOP nominee would covet the 27 electoral votes in Florida where Bush enjoys a high job approval rating among voters as he nears the end of his second term.

It was the 25 electoral votes Florida held in 2000 that sent the current president into office - by a scant 537-vote margin of more than 6 million cast in the state.

Bush, 53, would also provide some age balance on such a ticket. McCain turns 70 next month.

When prodded about the likelihood of a McCain-Bush ticket, Bush hedged just slightly.

"There's all sorts of time to worry about the 2008 election," he said.

Bush is prohibited from seeking a third consecutive term as governor by Florida law.

No, it wouldn't.

There is no one that makes McCain palatable to me.

We've all been over this before. Conservatives/Republicans in every forum, every blog, every radio show, every cable show...at dinner parties, at the supermarket...wherever. The result is always the same and yet they keep forcing this drivel down our throat.

McCain as the nominee and enough people stay home to throw the election. All you need is 2-3% to turn up their noses and Republicans lose.

And, btw, Jeb saying McCain is a good man makes me physically ill. Hooking up with Mccain just decreases his stock further. Just as Newt hooking up with Hillary hurt him at the time he did it.

Cheney hooking up with Bush DID help him, but people didn't hate G.W.B. They doubted his conservatismand Cheney made them feel more secure....but they didn't have an extremely adverse reaction to his name and have their blood temp rise. A more "conservative" candidate can help strengthen a candidate perceived as weak in that arena, but cannot overcome personality.

In short, Conservatives hate McCain. With solid reason. And he hates them. NO ONE, not even Rush Limbaugh, could salvage that man on a ticket.

The key is to get out of bed at 6 a.m. on primary day to vote for someone other than McCain.. waiting until election day to decide who we find acceptable is too late.

Of the three I'd take Rudy, but don't think I'll vote for any of the three in the primary.

You do know Rudy is on tape screaming worse than Dean about Florida selling guns.

Like I said, I'm not planning to vote for Rudy in the primaries -- and I do vote in the primary -- but I prefer him over Mccain any day of the week, Rudy is liberal, McCain is crazy.

The MSM is sure pushing for Rudy, Romney and or McCain.

Because they all have the backbone of Man-O-War.

Not the horse. The jellyfish.

I just want to strike fear into Democrats everywhere. Imagine several more generations of Bushes coming down the pike to assume the presidency. Maybe all the liberals will actually move to France like they keep threatening to do.

Katherine Harris was firmly in Bush's corner, and becuase she did her job despite a virulent MSM smear campaign, Bush was elected in 2000. It would have been very easy for her to go along with the DemocRATs, Gore would have been elected, and she would have rated a Profile in Courage in the Times - get it?

We are NOT a "democracy"; we are a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC and it is a wonder that after being here so long, you still don't know that.

It is way past time for you to change your tinfoil; it's stinking up the place.

These term, Democracy, is often used loosely in casual conversation, and most people understand the meaning. Occasionally someone, not well positioned to debate an issue, jumps on an incorrect side statement as if it were the primary subject of debate, and attempts to discredit the opponent. That is fair enough. Politicians do this all the time. However, the childish nature of your last comments show that your response was not intended to shed light on any discussion, Rather it was cheep attempt to bully your opinion (whatever it was) and to intimidate with no substantiation. That doesn't work well here where folks eagerly call our bluff and challenge our statements. I think your comments to me apply equally well to you, "...it is a wonder that after being here so long, you still don't know that."

Well .. Harris was not "firmly in Bush's corner" - and I don't know where you got that information.

She's a STATE of FL elected official - and she and Jeb did not have a close relationship. You need to check this our because it's coloring your attitude about Harris/Bush - and there's no relationship there.
