PROVO, Utah -- Rep. Chris Cannon is a loyal Republican with the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and a 100 percent rating from the American Conservative Union. He is unmarred by the ethical scandals that have roiled Washington in this election season....
Tuesday's matchup in Utah is viewed as a bellwether for how immigration issues play out nationwide. "If you want to throw the bums out, you can do that," Mr. Cannon said during his debate with Mr. Jacob earlier this month. Responded Mr. Jacob: "When you talk about throwing the bums out, I'm just working on one right now."

See post 80. He sounds very serious to me.
Mormons don't gamble, you know, except that Jacob did.
It's still an incredibly stupid thing to do in front of reporters. If you need to vent, do it in front of priest or a shrink.
Lots of goofy stuff coming out about Jacob three days before the election.
Post #47 thank you for the excellent comments clarifying Jacob's immigration stand.
In reading your stuff above, I am now persuaded that your prediction that Cannon is probably a safe bet, is correct. Jacob clearly was and is a flawed vessel with which to send a message about immigration issues. I listened to the debate between Jacob and Cannon. Jacob was clearly second tier mentally. JMO.
You guys sure don't know Utah very well do you. This plays well to the LDS base....you better believe it.
I told you you don't understand Utah politics, but the more opposition you get from Satan...the more righteous you are. It's curious...I don't like the statement. But as the article said:
....but is unlikely to be a major issue for the conservative voters he is targeting.
"Given that, I don't think it's very likely to make a big splash among Republican primary voters, but certainly if he gets through to the general election it might come up again and he'd have to explain it more," Burbank said.
Jacob, who like Cannon is LDS, said he is not the only one who is being opposed by Beelzebub. He said both Cannon and Sen. Bob Bennett have lost millions of dollars since going to Congress, and he believes their adversity is rooted in the same dark origins.
Now GAMBLING!! That IS enough to sink him in the Third District.
I've argued on the merits. He can't even describe his own "FastPass" immigration plan, who it applies to, or how he would get everybody back over the border.
The guy is too green to be in Congress. He's just a millionaire who's bored and needs another challenge. A Perot type.
I don't think Jacob is much of a fact checker. In the debate, he plugged into urban legend stats that were clearly false. I think he just picks stuff up that is out there (maybe he or his incompentent campaign folks are internet surfers), and repeats it.
Look, I sure as hell don't want a failed businessman in congress that blames his problems on the devil. He may be from Utah BUT he will cast votes on matters of national importance. We don't need a "devil made me do it" nutcase.
We don't need an open-borders nutcase either.
Oh for crying out loud, if he had called the prison system up he wouldn't have made an "error". He went with what he wanted to hear and got caught. A lot like what you are doing trying to rationalize this guy.
I see, so it's dishonest for someone to admit an error. Interesting logic.
Jacob merely acknowledges that sooner or later we're going to have to deal with the illegals who have been here since the 1970s and 80s who worked and played by the rules.
Certainly, we should look at this from a case-by-case basis and determine if they should indeed stay or not. But criticizing this as "amnesty," even though Jacob did a rather poor job of explaining his suggestion, is way over the top.
