Scientists respond to Gore's warnings of climate catastrophe

Scientists respond to Gore's warnings of climate catastrophe

"The Inconvenient Truth" is indeed inconvenient to alarmists

"Scientists have an independent obligation to respect and present the truth as they see it," Al Gore sensibly asserts in his film "An Inconvenient Truth", showing at Cumberland 4 Cinemas in Toronto since Jun 2. With that outlook in mind, what do world climate experts actually think about the science of his movie?

Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia gives what, for many Canadians, is a surprising assessment: "Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention." But surely Carter is merely part of what most people regard as a tiny cadre of "climate change skeptics" who disagree with the "vast majority of scientists" Gore cites? No; Carter is one of hundreds of highly qualified non-governmental, non-industry, non-lobby group climate experts who contest the hypothesis that human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) are causing significant global climate change.

"Climate experts" is the operative term here. Why? Because what Gore's "majority of scientists" think is immaterial when only a very small fraction of them actually work in the climate field... (click link above to read on)

I'm on my fourth life and just doomed it by eating at Kentucky FRIED Chicken last night.

I hope you live in Philadelphia, then you've hit the "jackpot."

In case you haven't heard, some wacko has filed an Class Action suit alleging (and I'm paraphrasing) that KFC willingly withheld information from public that their Fried Chicken contained copious amounts of "Trans fatty acids" and is asking for $76,000 for EVERYONE who ate at a KFC (ought to make it interesting trying to prove that one) in the past 3 years.

76,000! Hell, I'd be happy with unlimited free visits to KFC for life. :^)

If anyone has an e-mail list to talk show hosts, RNC, media outlets, etc., it would be great to send this on. I'll do it if anyone has such a list.

Does anyone remember a film from about 1970 or 71 titles THE HELSTROM CHRONICLES? it was a documentary on how BUGS or insects were going to rule the world in the not too distant future.

Didn't happen.

From the article:

"Had the IPCC used the standard parameter for climate change (the 30 year average) and used an equal area projection, instead of the Mercator (which doubled the area of warming in Alaska, Siberia and the Antarctic Ocean) warming and cooling would have been almost in balance."

Geez, Algore is a dufus.

Looks like the result of a complex motion. It could be a 100,000 year solar cycle, in which we are just beginning a period of slow descent, or it could be a huge cloud of cometary debris just coming around again to block out the sun for a while.

I absolutely remember that movie. It was awesome! At the time, however, I thought of it more as Sci-Fi than a documentary. Truth is though, that the bugs may well inherit the earth, while the rest of us cruise to the stars..

Oh, how could I forget the invasion of the killer bees! There were like 15 episodes of "20/20" reporting on the impending doom of the killer bees!

My favorite quote from this article:

Carter does not pull his punches about Gore's activism, "The man is an embarrassment to US science and its many fine practitioners, a lot of whom know (but feel unable to state publicly) that his propaganda crusade is mostly based on junk science."

I saw the movie Soylent Green from 1970 about what life would be like in 2020, the loony left got that one wrong too!

Don't count them out yet, it is only 2006, and they are working as hard as they can...

There are actually THREE issues here:

1) Is global warming occuring?

2) If so, is this global warming part of a general trend or a "blip" in the climatological record?

3) If global warming IS occurring, is it due to human agency or other natural cyclical factors?

I think that if Algore would breath a little less, the CO2
level of the atmosphere would be significantly reduced.

A 1000 votes in Florida and this would be the 6th year of the Algore Presidency.

With the economy in the tank after Algore vetoed another tax reduction, and the US reeling from another terrorist attack in NYC and US troops ground down in Afghanistan, Sadaam Hussein enriching uranium, negotiations with Iran at a standstill, Algore is now threating to take over industries that have not lived up to Kyoto standards."
