Welcome to the live thread for the California Primary Election. Polls are open until 8pm tonight. If you are a registered voter, it is your duty to vote and defend your rights and civil liberties, protect your pocketbook, and vote the bums out where applicable.
Feel free to discuss issues key to your local area that others may be interested in. Post your polling place experiences if you like. And post numbers as they come in later tonight.

I am a strong supporter of the Presdient but I do know that his conservative base has no stomach for anything that looks like amnesty to them.
That's great news about a Secret Service guy chosen for border security!

As long as your husband wasn't wearing a statement for a candidate on the ballot, the Dems have to keep their mouths shut.

"Yet, should someone put a nuke plant or chemical plant or something else in your backyard, then I expect you would be the one screaming the loudest to the zoning commission, the legislature, the regulatory agencies and the courts."
I would have no problem living near a nuclear or chemical plant. I live right across the street from a rock quarry and other than an annoying whistle that goes off at 6 a.m. I have no problem with it.
Don't assume that just because you believe in NIMBY that everyone else does.

"This is extremely dangerous waste."
Do you have any scientific evidence to back that claim up?

As a matter of fact, I wonder how many voters were wearing teeshirts with the Mexican flag on them?

Don't be silly. I'm not going to play your game of pointing all around the problem to distract from the obvious.
IF IT'S NOT BAD, KEEP IT YOURSELF.

I doubt the Kern County proposition will survive a court challenge from L.A. County, unless the U.S. Supreme Court overrules or somehow distinguishes this type of waste from the type of waste exported in past cases. The Court's decisions have been pretty clear in the past - states can't stop other states from exporting their waste without violating the Constitution's Commerce Clause.

"Simple arrogance: You don't have the space, so we have to take your diseased and toxic sludge.
Can you even hear how selfish and arrogant you are???"
Did you even notice when I said I don't live in LA? How can I be arrogant and selfish when I say that LA county should be able to ship human waste as fertilizer to private farms in Kern County when I live in San Diego county?
It seems that you're just projecting your prejudice against people from LA onto me.

Okay, good to know. What with your headache and all, I didn't know how much you're reading all of this stuff until I asked.
Yes, I heard about it yesterday, then the President brought it up himself when he spoke today. This tells me he is understanding more than some people think he is, at least about the Border security angst that many are feeling.
Some will claim it is mere window dressing. I don't think so. Why would the head of the Secret Service with a career going back to Richard Nixon go along with being anybody's window dressing?
I for one was encouraged when I heard about it.
